New Book Out On The Case Against Casey
As these new motions are filed, there is word of a new book that is due on book store shelves Tuesday.

It is called "Mommy's Little Girl," and is written by Diane Fanning.

Here is an excerpt from that book.

"When they got within three feet of the white Pontiac, George smelled a distinctive unpleasant odor. He’d once worked in law enforcement. He knew that smell, and it filled him with dread. He thought of his daughter and granddaughter. Please don’t let this be what I think it is.

He walked around to the driver’s side and inserted the key. He noticed his granddaughter’s car seat in the back and pulled open the door.

“Whoa, does that stink!” Simon exclaimed. The stench reminded him of another car that had been impounded recently. Before they towed it, the vehicle had sat for five days -- with the body of a man who’d committed suicide inside."
News 13 has checked with several bookstores around Central Florida, and so far found only one store with copies -- but they only had six.

What did the new motions today by Casey Anthony's team mean? Here's how stations presented the news:

*** WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Vanessa Echols said: "Defense attorneys want the death penalty dropped. They say they believe prosecutors are seeking a death sentence only because they want to see a conviction-prone jury, not because there's proof that Caylee was killed in a cold, calculated manner. They also argue the indictment is defective because it contains no facts, so they don't know how to defend her. Finally, the defense thinks Casey is facing too many check-fraud charges and some should be dropped."

Casey Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

The defense's claim that the indictment is defective is "laughable," WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said. "When is the defense ever going to get serious?" he asked.


***WKMG-Channel 6 anchor Erick Weber said: "Now the defense is attacking that criminal indictment, claiming the document is defective. According to Anthony's attorneys, the indictment does not include any specific facts about how the crime was committed. Without any facts to refute, Anthony cannot formulate a defense, her attorneys argue."

"Hmm," Weber added after reading the last sentence.

"In a separate motion addressing Anthony's check-fraud case, defense claims prosecutors excessively piled on criminal charges, violating her constitutional rights," Weber said.

*** WESH-Channel 2's Bob Kealing highlighted this from the defense team: "The state's intention to seek the death penalty in order to gain a tactical advantage over the defense is in bad faith."

Kealing's take on what will happen to the motion: "It would seem pretty unlikely that the judge would just toss a grand jury indictment that was based, in part, on testimony of Casey's own father. But that's what [defense attorney Jose] Baez and company are asking."

WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl noted that Anthony's check-fraud pretrial hearing will be Dec. 11 -- the day Caylee's remains were found a year ago.

The latest in the saga of the Casey Anthony story:

*** "Mommy's Little Girl" by Diane Fanning hits bookstores today. As I wrote last month, the book in no way can be construed as a pro-Casey Anthony book. Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

To her credit, Fanning puts the Anthony family story in context. She describes Cindy Anthony's past, her marriage to George and daughter Casey's habit of telling lies. An important source is Rick Plesea, Cindy's brother -- renamed Rick Cuza in the book to protect the family's privacy.

"Casey is the biggest liar in history," uncle Rick wrote in an e-mail to his mother. "She would rather spin lies than find Caylee. She thinks it is a game." Rick wrote that Casey makes George and Cindy "look like the stupidest parents ever in the entire world."


Fanning concludes that Casey Anthony is "an individual whose self-absorption and insensitivity to others is a destructive force."
