Re: ^HASSANI CAMPBELL - 5 yo with CP - Oakland CA
The reward for missing 5-year-old boy Hasanni Campbell has been
increased to $60,000 thanks to large contributions from Alameda and San
Francisco counties, Oakland police said today.
Hasanni, who has cerebral palsy, was reported missing by his foster father, Louis Ross, from the parking lot of the Shuz of Rockridge Shoe store in the 6000 block of College Avenue about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 10.
Hasanni's foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works at the store. Ross, Jennifer Campbell, Hasanni and another child lived together in Fremont. Oakland police and Crime Stoppers initially offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Hasanni. But Oakland police said the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and San
Francisco County are contributing another $25,000 each to the reward.Hasanni's biological parents live in San Francisco and the city's
Department of Human Services had been involved in supervising him by
checking in with his foster parents periodically. San Francisco
Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement, "We hope this award will lead
to information on the whereabouts of Hasanni Campbell." Newsom said, "If you have any leads, please contact the Oakland Police Department."Oakland Acting Police Chief Howard Jordan said in a statement, "This
case has touched everyone in our community and across the region and
with the increased reward money we are hoping to bring closure to this
case. The Oakland Police Department wants to thank everyone who is
involved in this generous effort." Oakland police said anyone
with information about the case is urged to call them at (510) 777-3211
or (510) 238-7934 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572. Last
Friday, Oakland police said they consider Hasanni's disappearance to be
a homicide case, not a missing persons case. They arrested Ross on
suspicion of murder and Jennifer Campbell on suspicion of being an
accomplice to murder. But Ross and Campbell were released from
custody earlier this week after the Alameda County District Attorney's
Office said there's not enough evidence to charge them at this time.

Police: Hasanni Was Not in Oakland
Acting Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said that department investigators "know for a fact" that little Hasanni Campbell didn't go missing from behind a Rockridge shoe store on August 10 as his stepfather claims, according to the Trib and the Chron. In other words, stepfather Louis Ross has lied and is still lying about what happened to the 5-year-old boy. Jordan did not disclose more details on how investigators reached that conclusion, but said Oakland police would not conduct any more searches for the boy unless they got additional credible information about what happened to him. Oakland cops say that the last known public sighting of the boy was on August 6 at a Wal-Mart store in Fremont. Jordan made his comments after the Alameda County District Office decided to not file charges against Ross or Hasanni's foster mother/aunt Jennifer Campbell and ordered them both released from jail.

Search For 5-Year-Old Continues
SAN FRANCISCO -- Volunteers gathered at Lake Elizabeth Saturday to search for Hasanni Campbell.
The volunteers, led by Sherri-lyn Miller and Courtney Tascoe-Burris, San Jose Search and Rescue Team, and concerned citizens aided the effort.
The organizers and volunteers said they are concerned about the 5-year-old, who has cerebral palsy. He was reported missing Aug. 10.
They said although police have given up, the volunteers are not satisfied that every effort was made to find Hasanni.
“We can not assume, as the police have done, that this boy’s life is no longer salvageable. If anything, the disturbing words from the investigators should serve as motivation to make us even more relentless in our search efforts. They may have given up hope, but we will not. Together, we can bring Hasanni home,” said Courtney Tascoe-Burris, Search Volunteer Organizer.
Lake Elizabeth was chosen to search in light of the fact that the Oakland Police department's investigation was changed from missing person to homicide.
They said their highest hope is to thoroughly search and rule out the Lake Elizabeth area and continue future searches with the expectation that Hasanni is still alive.
Oakland will be searched at a future date. They said the Jaycee Lee Dugard case is a reminder for volunteers not to give up on Hasanni

A massive volunteer search
effort in Fremont on Saturday for Hasanni Campbell did not turn up any
clues in the disappearance of the 5-year old who went missing August
10. But it did give the organizers and the 124 volunteers who
covered numerous areas in Fremont renewed hope that the Fremont boy is
still alive. "It gave us hope that we're looking for a live, breathing, walking child," organizer Sherri Miller said. Her
co-organizer was Courtney Tascoe-Burris, daughter of civil rights
attorney John Burris, who has served as a legal advisor to Campbell's
foster parents. The boy's foster father Louis Ross, 38, and
foster mother Jennifer Campbell, 30, were arrested last week and held
for several days in jail. Prosecutors did not file criminal charges
against them, and both were released this week. Meanwhile, the award
for information leading to the conviction of the person or people who
abducted Hasanni has risen to $60,000. Volunteers from the San
Jose Search and Rescue Team, Newark Community Emergency Response Team,
Oakland organizations and others began at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont at
9 a.m. They split into 11 search teams to scour the lake, the Dumbarton
Quarry, Alameda Creek, the Alvarado Niles District and other areas
around Fremont. "It was amazing," Miller said.In the
meantime, the Fremont school where Hasanni was enrolled, Leitch
Elementary, has a psychologist on hand in case students need to talk
about their concerns, but no one has needed his service, according to Nicole
Steward, spokeswoman for the Fremont Unified School District. The search ended at 3:30 p.m. Miller
said they will start searching in Oakland, where his foster father said
the boy disappeared while in an unattended car in the Rockridge

Search Organizers Hold Vigil For Missing Boy
Posted: 9:53 pm PDT September 7, 2009Updated: 9:56 pm PDT September 7, 2009On Monday night, about two dozen people gathered for a prayer vigil in honor of missing Fremont five-year-old Hassani Campbell at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church.
It has now been four weeks since the five-year old was reported missing from the Rockridge neighborhood in oakland.
Hasanni's foster father Louis Ross and foster mother Jennifer Campbell attended the service.
This past Saturday, more than 100 civilian volunteers, including the San Jose Search and Rescue Team and the Newark Community Emergency Response Team, searched Lake Elizabeth Central Park in Fremont, according to event organizer Sherri-Lyn Miller.
The case is now being treated as a homicide instead of a missing person case, so the civilian searchers said they were relieved not to find Hasanni's body at Lake Elizabeth.
"We didn't find Hasanni here and that is good news for us," Miller said. "Now we can go to Oakland and focus on the area where it was reported he disappeared."
Miller added that the search party's main goal was to eliminate Lake Elizabeth as a site where Hasanni could be.

Possible clothing clue
Volunteers searching for missing Fremont 5-year-old Hasanni Campbell reported
finding children's clothing in Oakland's Rockridge District today, less
than a mile from where his foster father had reported him missing last
month, authorities said.
A gray sweatshirt and a sock and a blanket were found at about 1:15 p.m.
at the end of Chabot Road, near the intersection of Highways 13 and 24,
authorities said.
The discovery has drawn Oakland police crime scene investigators and
Alameda County search dogs to the scene, which has been cordoned off by
yellow tape.
Hasanni was reportedly wearing a gray sweatshirt when his foster
father, Louis Ross, reported him missing Aug. 10. Ross said he last saw
the boy outside a shoe store on College Avenue in Oakland where his
fiancee and the boy's foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works.
Oakland police arrested the Fremont couple Aug. 28 on suspicion of
being involved in what they believe is the killing of the boy, who has
cerebral palsy, but the Alameda County district attorney declined to
file charges. Ross and Campbell have said they are innocent.
The foster parents arrived at the scene this afternoon along with their legal adviser, Oakland attorney John Burris.
"We have no idea at this point if it's even connected to Hasanni,"
said Sherri-Lyn Miller, a San Leandro print-shop owner who has been
organizing regular searches for the boy.
"Because it is similar, it's gray, it does appear to be small, we
want to make sure - this is pretty close to the area where he was
missing - we want to make sure that we analyze it and confirm," Oakland
police Sgt. Arturo Bautista told reporters.
There is a $60,000 reward for information leading to Hasanni's
whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to call Oakland police at
(510) 777-3211 or (510) 238-7934, or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572.

Re: ^HASSANI CAMPBELL - 5 yo with CP - Oakland CA
The family of Hasanni Campbell will be privately commemorating his sixth birthday today, while volunteers are organizing another search for the missing Fremont boy on Saturday.
Hasanni's grandmother, Pamela Clark, said the family "is just in
seclusion" today.ad originally planned to hold an event for the boy,
but it was called off out of respect to the family.
However, Miller said that organizers will be searching Coyote Hills
Regional Park in Fremont starting at 8 a.m. Ssues, Miller said.
More than 75 people have already signed up to join the search,
according to Miller. She said 124 people joined the last search, which
took place near Lake Elizabeth in Fremont.
Hasanni, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was reported missing from the
parking lot of the Shuz of Rockridge shoe store in the 6000 block of
College Ave. about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 10 by his stepfather, Louis Ross.
The boy's foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works at the store. Ross, 38, and Campbell, 30, lived with Hasanni and another child, a 1-year-old girl, in Fremont.
On Aug. 28, Oakland police arrested Ross and Campbell and said they were treating the case as a homicide instead of a missing person case.
But the Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced several
days later that it wouldn't file charges against Ross and Campbell
because of insufficient evidence.
Oakland police have no new tips in the case, and police spokesman Jeff Thomason has said, "Don't stop looking for him."
Miller said people wishing to join the search can call (510) 276-9090 or send an e-mail to findhasanni@gmail.com.
Volunteers will also be at the Rockridge Street Festival on Sunday.

Re: ^HASSANI CAMPBELL - 5 yo with CP - Oakland CA
It's been nearly two months
since Hasanni Campbell, a 5-year-old Fremont boy with cerebral palsy,
was reported missing from behind a shoe store in Oakland's Rockridge
neighborhood. And in those two months, the attention the case
is getting has lessened significantly. The once-weekly vigils on Monday
nights have turned into once-a-month gatherings at the request of his
foster parents. An organized search for the boy hasn't been done since
the last weekend in September. And it's been 10 days since
Hasanni has been mentioned in the local news, said Sherri Miller, the
40-year-old San Leandro woman who has been heading the searches and
organizing the vigils. Earlier this week, Miller held a planning
meeting for a Nov. 1 fundraising dinner at a Livermore winery. The
turnout of volunteers was far lower than she expected.Still, Miller is pressing ahead. "We're
not giving up. The volunteers that are left still want to do things,"
Miller said. As for the searches, "We are now at a point where we don't
know where to look, so we just have to look everywhere." The
boy was reported missing Aug. 10 from the rear driveway of Shuz of
Rockridge, where his foster father, Louis Ross, 38, has said he left
the boy alone while he went to the front of the store to alert Jennifer
Campbell, the boy's 30-year-old foster mother and aunt, that he had
arrived to drop off Hasanni and the boy's 1-year-old sister.Hasanni has not been seen since, and police have no new leads. Ross
did not return phone calls for this story. While stories about Hasanni
appeared on television and in newspapers nearly daily after he went
missing, the coverage has since waned. Miller said people
come into her San Leandro print shop asking for updates on the boy.
They want to know any news on him, she said."They say, 'We haven't heard anything about him,'" she said.To
keep his name in the news and raise money for search efforts, Miller
and Courtney Tascoe-Burris are planning a fundraising dinner from 2 to
8 p.m. Nov. 1 at Garre Vineyard & Winery, 7986 Tesla Road,
Livermore. The winery donated the space, but the women need
people to decorate, set up the event space, park cars, serve, clean up
and collect tickets. Miller and Tascoe-Burris, daughter of Oakland
civil rights attorney John Burris, who has counseled the missing boy's
foster parents, also are seeking donations of food and silent auction
items. They also want vendors to come set up booths — at a cost — at
the event. "There is much to do in the next (three weeks). We are confident that we will be able to pull it off," Miller said.Invited
guests include Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, San Francisco Mayor Gavin
Newsom, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, Fremont Mayor Bob Wasserman, Oakland
and Fremont City Council members, and others. Miller hopes
people will buy $30 tickets for the event, which will include a dinner
of either roast beef, chicken or a vegetarian entree, garlic mashed
potatoes, vegetables and a glass of wine. There also will be
entertainment from Shot Gunn Haze, the Rabe Ups, and a couple of the
original members of Santana, Miller said. Marco Valley and Kelly Lynn
Flynn, soloist musicians, will play during dinner, Miller said. "We
don't want him to be forgotten," Miller said. "He's still out there
somewhere, and we need to find him and bring him home. It will be two
months on Saturday that he's been gone. (Children) don't just vanish
like that."
since Hasanni Campbell, a 5-year-old Fremont boy with cerebral palsy,
was reported missing from behind a shoe store in Oakland's Rockridge
neighborhood.

Organizers
raised about $1,000 at a fundraiser for Hasanni Campbell, the missing
Fremont 6-year-old who hasn't been seen in almost three months.Sherri
Miller organized a dinner, silent auction and entertainment Sunday at
the Garre Vineyard & Winery in Livermore. The winery donated the
space. The money will be used for future searches and possibly to hire a private investigator, she said. "It was a good turn out," she said, adding that there were about 120 people at the event. The
boy was reported missing Aug. 10 from the rear driveway of Shuz of
Rockridge, where his foster father, Louis Ross, 38, has said he left

Campbell, the boy's 30-year-old foster mother and aunt, that he had
arrived to drop off Hasanni and the boy's 1-year-old sister. The girl
has been placed in protective custody and will not be returned to the
couple.Neither Ross nor Campbell, who is due to give birth to
her first child at the end of this month, attended the fundraiser, and
they have not been involved in the searches or vigils in recent weeks.
The boy's grandmother and an aunt were at the event Sunday, Miller
said. The couple were arrested on suspicion of murder in late
August, but they were released from custody a few days later when the
Alameda County District Attorney's Office declined to file charges
against them.Police have not discussed new leads in the case.Anyone
with information is urged to call the Oakland Police Department at

reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or
people who abducted Hasanni is $75,000.Supporters continue to
hold monthly vigils for the boy. The next one is 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the
College Avenue Presbyterian Church, 5951 College Ave. in Oakland. For

Re: ^HASSANI CAMPBELL - 5 yo with CP - Oakland CA
Three months after Hasanni Campbell was reported missing from the
parking lot of an Oakland shoe store, the reward for him has been increased
to $75,000.
Hasanni, who has cerebral palsy, was reported missing by his
foster father, Louis Ross, from the parking lot of Shuz of Rockridge in the
600 block of College Avenue about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 10.
Hasanni's foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works at the store.
Ross, Jennifer Campbell, Hasanni and another child lived together in Fremont.
Hasanni was 5 years old at the time he was reported missing and his sixth
birthday was on Sept. 24.
Sherri-Lyn Miller, a San Leandro print shop owner who has been
organizing searches, vigils and fundraisers for Hasanni, said only four
people attended a candlelight vigil for Hasanni at the College Avenue
Presbyterian Church, near the site where he was reported missing, on Tuesday,
which marked the three-month anniversary of his disappearance.
However, 10 members of the news media were present, Miller said.
The reward for Hasanni had stood at $60,000 but Miller said
Alameda County Supervisor Gail Steele has gotten the city of Fremont to
contribute an additional $10,000 and Steve Winn Volkswagen in Newark added
$5,000.
Previously, Alameda and San Francisco counties contributed $25,000
each and Crime Stoppers offered $10,000.
Miller said a fundraising event in Livermore last weekend raised
another $1,000, which will help pay for some of the cost of searches for
Hasanni and for fliers.
Asked if she thinks there's still a chance Hasanni can be found
alive, Miller said, "All we can do is hope. We're not giving up. He's out
there somewhere and deserves to be found."
Miller said Ross and Jennifer Campbell weren't at the vigil on
Tuesday and haven't been involved in the search effort recently.
On Aug. 28, Oakland police arrested Ross and Campbell and said
they were treating the disappearance as a homicide instead of a missing
person case.
But the Alameda County District Attorney's office announced
several days later that it wouldn't file charges against Ross and Campbell
because of insufficient evidence.
Miller said the next vigil for Hasanni will be on Dec. 10, which
would mark four months since he was reported missing.
Anyone with information about Hasanni is urged to call the Oakland
Police Department at (510) 777-3211 or (510) 238-7934 or Crime Stoppers at
(510) 777-8572.
