River of Tears

There's a river that flows slowly through a little town
The water's just a little murky, but not quite so brown
I can tell from the smell that it contains just a little salt
The ocean is quite far away so is the river here by default?
There are no fish swimming around or jumping all about
There's no source of this river, I can't even find a spout
This river water is not cold nor even hot to the touch
But it is quite deep this river, I've never seen one as such
Next to the cattails that sway slowly in the light wind
Is a face that seems familiar, I think it is an old friend
I say to my old friend, "Why do you sit quietly all alone here?"
She says "This is where I come when I think of you and leave my tears"
I say to her "Sweet friend of mine you cried me a river deep and wide"
She says "Many have come here to cry for you Caylee, since the day you died"
I left my old friend weeping by that river bank as I ascended back above
I scooped a handful of those river tears and placed them on wings of doves
So when you see a beautiful dove please think of me with a grin
It's a small reminder that I carry your tears and I will see you again
