"Newborn Doe" - 3 Months - Accused: Steve Callaway - St Petersburg FL

Police arrested a 19-year-old man they say abused a 3-month-old baby in his care last year.Steve Allen Callaway, of 3518 15th Ave. S, was arrested Friday night on a charge of aggravated child abuse. Police
believe Callaway abused the infant sometime between 9 p.m. Dec. 10 and
about 5:15 a.m. Dec. 11, according to an arrest affidavit. The baby
sustained abusive head trauma, the report said, including bleeding in
the brain.The relationship between Callaway and the child is unknown.According
to the affidavit, Callaway has denied the abuse allegations, although
he admitted he was the only person caring for the child during that
time.Callaway told authorities the baby has acid reflux and began to vomit that day."He
claimed that he cleared the baby's nose with a nasal aspirator and
patted the baby on the back," a St. Petersburg officer wrote in the
report.A doctor indicated Callaway's version was not consistent with the infant's injuries, the report said.Callaway remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday. Bail has not been set.
