Narcissistic Rage Empty Narcissistic Rage

Post by mom_in_il Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:11 pm

Narcissistic rage has Casey's name all over it!! From Wikipedia:

Narcissistic rage is a reaction to narcissistic injury. When the narcissist's (Casey's) grandiose sense of self worth is perceivably being attacked by another person (Cindy), the narcissist's natural reaction is to rage and pull-down the self worth of others (to make the narcissist feel superior to others). It is an attempt by the narcissist to soothe their internal pain and hostility, (by murdering Caylee) while at the same time rebuilding their self worth. (by getting back at Cindy)

Narcissistic rage should not be confused with anger (although the two are similar), and is not necessarily caused by a situation that would typically provoke anger in an individual. (Mothers don't usually murder their children when they become upset with their own mothers!) Narcissistic rage also occurs when the narcissist is perceivably being prevented from accomplishing their grandiose fantasies (Casey's life with Tony)

Narcissistic rages are a result of the shame at being faced with failure. (Casey was busted stealing money from her grandparents, Tony wants only boys) Narcissistic rage is the uncontrollable and unexpected anger that occurs due to a narcissistic injury. (Being accused of theivery) Narcissistic injury as a threat to a narcissist’s self-esteem or worth. Rage comes in many forms, but all pertain to the same important thing, revenge (Revenge on Cindy by murdering Caylee).

Narcissistic rages are based on fear (Tony wants only boys, Casey is busted for stealing) and will endure even after the threat is gone. To the narcissist, the rage is directed towards the person that they feel has slighted them (Cindy - and all of her attention that is given to Caylee); to other people, the rage is incoherent and unjust. (First Degree Murder!!) This rage impairs their cognition, therefore impairing their judgment. During the rage they are prone to shouting, (Fight on June 15th) fact distortion (Listen to her LE interview)and making groundless accusations. (Zenaida Gonzales, "It's all about Caylee!") It’s believed that narcissists have two layers of rage. The first layer of rage can be thought of as a constant anger (towards someone else) (Cindy), and the second layer being a self-aimed wrath. Two specific identified forms of narcissistic rage are explosive and passive-aggressive. The explosive form being an obvious anger, for example, damaging property (or people) (Murdering Caylee) and being verbally abusive. (Fight with Cindy on June 15th) The passive-aggressive sort might be sulking or giving their target the silent treatment. (Disappearing for 31 days)They can become enraged to the point of being homicidal (Murdering Caylee) especially if he/she has the need to seek revenge. (Against Cindy by taking away what she loved most) Narcissistic rage is usually short lasting,(Caylee murdered in the early hours of June 16th?) but can provoke problems towards those that the anger is targeted towards. (Poor little Caylee, Cindy and George)

Narcissism can be a considered a self-perceived form of perfectionism. Narcissists often are pseudo-perfectionists and require being the center of attention (definitely Casey) and create situations where they will receive attention. (Poor me - parents divorcing, sexual abuse, being whatever boyfriends wanted her to be) This attempt at being perfect is cohesive with the grandiose self-image that the narcissist has of him-/herself. If a perceived state of perfection isn’t reached it can lead to guilt, shame, anger or anxiety because he/she believes that he/she will lose the imagined love (Tony)and admiration from other people if he/she isn’t perfect.

Glad you posted this Mom. I posted about this a few months ago. It's a perfect fit IMO and I thought that the prosecution could use it. Other info I found was a case of a young man, Brian Blackwell 19, who killed his parents who had that disorder.

Really disturbing!

"Blackwell admitted manslaughter with diminished responsibility. He suffers "narcissistic personality disorder". . . . .

He told the court that sufferers of narcissistic personality disorder typically flew into a rage if their fantasy world was challenged or threatened."

Is that a recognized defense here in the US?

We were recently studying personality disorders in one of my psychology classes and when we began a discussion about narcissistic personality disorder I found it an excellent opportunity to bring Casey Anthony into the discussion. Needless to say we used the rest of class to tear each and every action apart to perfectly fit her into the DSM-IV criteria. I mean between the lies, the selfishness, the lack of remorse, you don't need a psychology degree to know that something is just not right with this woman. I hope this doesn't happen but I have a feeling (especially if the death penalty is thrown back onto the table) that her defense team may plead not guilty by reason of a mental defect. Now I think that anyone with a mental disease should be treated but personality disorders are near impossible, because this isn't some defect in the brain that can be cured with drugs this is how they are. And you can't change how people think and behave as quickly as you may like to. It's so sad, and unfortunate because her daughter had to pay for this, I just am so heartbroken because of how clearly sick in the head this woman is, and not only that but the level of denial her family is in because of it. It makes me sick to my stomach and I will never completely understand it.

Narcissistic Rage Empty Re: Narcissistic Rage

I posted this yesterday and thought I'd copy it to here. He's on death row so his personality disorders were no help to his defense. I am astounded at the connection between having a "fake life" and lying to family and friends and murdering your family. In fact my theory is that Casey intended to murder her parents. I'll copy that over here too.

Anyway I popped back because I just watched Oprah(we're way behind here
because I think it aired in the US in October) and the similarities are
amazing. Some of you might remember me posting about Brian Blackwell, a
19 year old who lied about his life and killed his family. Kent
Whitaker, father of Bart Whitaker who killed his Mother and brother and
tried to kill his father too was on. He's written a book(sound like
Cindy?)
Anyway it amazed me. Bart lied about his school etc for
years and about graduating when he didn't. He planned to get rid of his
family for years. They say he's a sociopath and narcissistic. He was a
pathological liar.
Even though it was a loving family, it was
interesting that Bart said that he felt they loved an idealized version
of him and that he wasn't the person they thought he was(or wanted to
believe he was). He thought they didn't love him. He came to blame
them. I thought it was interesting because Brian Blackwell, Bart
Whitaker and Casey are all young, all sociopaths and pathological liars
who lied about their real lives to family and friends.
Kent Whitaker
was explaining why it took him so long to believe his son could really
have done it. He said that so many positive things happen that convince
you to believe your kids. His book is called Murder By Family.

Narcissistic Rage Empty Re: Narcissistic Rage

Post by kiwimom Thu Feb 12, 2009 9:34 pm

In March, Caylee was around 2 1/2 years old and talking more and more.
She was growing up. Casey's lies were going to come crashing down
around her. She had to stop Caylee from saying something that would
bust her lies. Casey started thinking about it in March. Searching the
computer for ideas.
George was becoming increasingly suspicious
that Casey was lying to them. She was stealing from them. Did she even
have a job GA wondered. Don't be stupid Cindy kept saying to him. Let's
not go there again. Casey is why they broke up in 2005 and almost
divorced. Never the less George kept asking Caylee about who she'd been
with and about the Nanny and the little boy Zac.
Casey was getting more and more terrified every day. Caylee was speaking more and more every day.
Casey
tried to keep them apart. Told her parents she and Caylee needed to be
independent from them. She spent more and more time away from home. She
and Caylee stayed at Ricardo's a lot.
By the end of May things
were becoming more difficult every day. Casey started going out with
Tony. She was besotted with him. She needed to keep Caylee away from
her parents as much as possible but she was desperate to be with Tony
and he didn't want Caylee at his flat all the time. No problem bringing
her over for a swim but he didn't want her staying there. If only she
could find a flat. Maybe with Amy. She hasn't got a job though, and all
she could think about was Tony. Getting a job and a flat was too hard
for lazy Casey. Maybe all her problems would be solved if her parents
died, she thought. Then I'd have the house and no worries about Caylee
busting my lies. I need a room mate to babysit Caylee while I'm with
Tony though. I wonder if Amy would move in? I'll run it by her and see.
Yes she would.

I believe getting rid of Cindy and George was
probably Caseys preferred plan. It was just not that easy to do. It was
easier to get rid of Caylee and live with Tony. Caylee would be 3 years
old in a month and a half. She talks all the time now. Casey is really
panicing. She steels hersel to do it time and time again. Doesn't.
Then
on the 14th June Casey is on the phone with Tony until the wee hours.
On the 15th she is on the phone again until 3am. Cindy wakes her up at
7.30am. They have an argument. Casey is really tired. She grabs the
same clothes Caylee had on the night before, quickley dresses her and
herself and storms out with Caylee. Cindy tries to call Casey on her
cell phone from the house at 7.45am. Casey doesn't answer. Cindy goes
to work. In the afternoon of the 16th Casey calls Cindy to ask her to
look after Caylee after work. She wants to go to Tony's. Cindy is still
furious with Casey and won't answer. She talks to George at 3pm. He
said he had to work and she's have to sort it out with Cindy. Casey is
furious. In a rage. She goes back to the house. She murders Caylee.

Casey's
cell phone had a gap of 2 hours from arond 4.30 to 6.30pm on June 16th.
I think this is when she murdered Caylee. I don't think all those calls
she made to her parents that afternoon was Casey looking for help after
the event. I think they were to get them to babysit and Cindy refused.
Casey was extremely tired, she was angry with Cindy and she was
desperate to be with Tony. This was enough for her to be able to
complete her plan of getting rid of Caylee.
