Jose Baez, in his “closing arguments” on the trunk odor analysis, said Dr. Vass stands to make “millions” on his invention, or otherwise the patent that he filed, for a clandestine grave detector. I started to laugh – very few inventors make much money off a patent, much less “millions”. I personally hold five patents that were awarded over a 20-year period, patents that my company has licensed to other companies such as Intel and AMD, and the total amount of money I was awarded directly for these patents by my company is less than $15,000, or about $750 per year. I’m not complaining – I liked getting the check – but I’m hardly getting rich off that work.
