May 6, 2011 - The Codiac Regional RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 13-year-old Chelsea Hartling, of Moncton.



Chelsea Hartling was reported missing on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
She left from home on her own accord and has not been in contact with her family since.

Police have reason to believe Chelsea Hartling may be with someone she knows, however, her family is concerned.

She was last seen wearing maroon shorts, a red and white hoody with a large square pattern, and black sneakers with purple laces. She is 5'5" tall, weighs about 170 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts or who may have seen Chelsea Hartling since May 1 is asked to contact the Codiac RCMP at 506-857-2400, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

On Saturday, May 14, 2011, the Codiac Regional RCMP assisted by the Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue, Police Dog services and RCMP helicopter, will be actively searching in the neighborhood of Chelsea Hartling's residence leading to Champlain Mall.

Chelsea was reported missing on Sunday, May 1, 2011. She left from home on her own accord and has not been in contact with her family since.

'We are actively searching the area in which we believe she was last seen in hopes to find clues or anything that could help us advance in this case,' says Cpl. Roy, a spokesperson for the Codiac RCMP.

Police find missing 13-year-old girl, two New Brunswick women facing charges

RCMP in New Brunswick say two women are facing abduction charges after a missing 13-year-old girl was found, safe and sound.

Chelsea Hartling of Moncton was reported missing on May 1.

Police say they found the girl Sunday around 5:15 p.m. after a search of a home in nearby Lakeville.

RCMP say a 32-year-old Lakeville woman and a 41-year-old woman from Irishtown were arrested.

The two are scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court today on charges of abduction of a person under 14 years of age.

Two Moncton-area women have been charged with abducting a young girl.

Jodie Lynn Beaulieu, 32, of Lakeville and Tammy Chappell, 41, of Irishtown appeared in Moncton provincial court today on abduction charges.

Chappell also faces a count of public mischief.

The two were arrested Sunday after 13-year-old Chelsea Hartling of Moncton was found in a Lakeville home.

The accused will be back in court next month.

The court ordered the two to have no contact with each other or the girl's family.

Hartling was reported missing on May 1.

Police say teenager was not held against her will, she knew one of the women involved

Two women appeared in Moncton provincial court yesterday, charged with concealing the whereabouts of a 13-year-old runaway and lying to police during the investigation.

Chelsea Hartling, of Moncton, had been missing since she ran away from home on May 1. Police made several pleas to the public for information regarding her whereabouts but had no luck.

On Saturday investigators embarked on a major search for any sign of the teen.

"We had an extensive search using the ground search and rescue, had the RCMP helicopter out, the police dog, looking for clues, anything that could help us advance our case," said Codiac RCMP Cpl. Dan Roy, during a news conference at police headquarters yesterday. "Through the investigation and numerous discussions with people, it led us to a house in Lakeville and that's where we found her, safe and sound."

Police say the girl was not being held against her will and knew one of the two women, though Roy wouldn't go into detail about the relationship.

The two women were arrested and brought to court yesterday morning to be formally charged.

Tammy Chappell, 41, of Indian Mountain, and Jody Lynn Beaulieu, 32, of Lakeville, are charged with abducting a person under the age of 14. They are specifically accused of - while not being the parent, guardian or person having the lawful care or charge of a person under 14 - unlawfully taking, enticing away, concealing, detaining, receiving or harbouring that young person with the intent to deprive the parents or legal guardian of that young person.

In this case, Hartling's parents, Susan Savoy and Derek Hartling, are the people named as being deprived of the young person.

Chappell is also charged with public mischief for giving false statements to Const. Gary Clements for saying she had no knowledge of the girl's whereabouts or involvement in her disappearance in an attempt to divert suspicion from herself and to cause the investigation to continue.

Crown prosecutor Jessica Lavoie agreed to release to two accused if they signed an undertaking to the court, including orders to have no contact with each other or several members of the Hartling family, including the girl.

They also must report to police by phone once per week and notify them of any change of name, address or employment.

Chappell returns to court June 17 while Beaulieu will be back June 13.

When asked if the girl is back with her family, Roy would only say she's safe and declined to elaborate. He also said the case is still under investigation to determine exactly what happened and the two women weren't known to police prior to their arrest.

"She had been missing for a couple of weeks and in this case there are a few complicated issues that will come out during court proceedings," said the corporal. "We had the resources out there (looking for her) and everybody who could help was helping.

"Through the investigation and numerous discussions with people, it led us to a house in Lakeville and that's where we found her, safe and sound."

The girl's parents were in court yesterday but wouldn't speak to reporters afterwards.

Three women are now charged in connection with a missing teen case in Moncton.

Eighteen year old Leticia Skye Chappell appeared in court yesterday on charges of abduction and public mischief.

She's also charged with breaching an undertaking to have no contact with the teenage girl, who can no longer be identified due to a publication ban.

The girl went missing on May 1st and was found safe and sound by Mounties on Sunday.

Forty-one year old Tammy Chappell of Indian Mountain and 32 year old Jody Lynn Beaulieu of Lakeville were charged Monday with abduction.

They both return to court in June.
