May 8, 2011 — Police are asking Nanaimo residents to watch for a 13-year-old runaway youth from the Lower Mainland believed to be in the city.


Scott Di Vincenzo is five-foot-three and weighs about 100 pounds.
He has blue eyes and shaggy blond hair. He was last seen wearing
a blue hoody, black high-top runners and black jeans.

According to an RCMP news release, Scott Di Vincenzo was reported missing in Surrey on Saturday. After authorities there learned the boy was on the Horseshoe Bay ferry, police in Nanaimo located him when the ferry arrived at Departure Bay.

But as he was being returned to Surrey by friends, Di Vincenzo ran off when they stopped at the Tim Hortons on Wallace Street. Despite extensive patrols by police in the area immediately after, they were unable to locate the boy.

“Scott does not know anyone in Nanaimo and he has very little money on him,” Cpl. Sheryl Armstrong said in a news release.

Scott is five-foot-three and weighs about 100 pounds. He has blue eyes and shaggy blond hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hoody, black high-top runners and black jeans.

“His family are worried about him and RCMP are asking anyone with information on Scott’s whereabouts to call 911 or CrimeStoppers,” Armstrong said.

A worried mother and father have left their home in Surrey, to search for their missing son on Vancouver Island.

Scott Di Vincenzo, 13, disappeared from his family's home on Saturday. Scott along with another teen travelled to Nanaimo by Ferry.

The RCMP picked up the teens, Scott was later handed over to friends of his family who were taking him back to Surrey.

Before departing Nanaimo, Scott ran away.

He was last seen Sunday night at the Tim Horton's on Wallace Street in Nanaimo.

He's about 5'3" and 100 pounds. He has blue eyes and shaggy blonde hair. He was wearing black skinny jeans and a blue hoody.

It's believed he has little money.

Anyone with information regarding Scott's whereabouts is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345

School friends and local youths help find missing Surrey teen

. . . . . Trust built through established relationships between police, schools, and youth helped, but Armstrong said it was the co-operation between the youths from Surrey and Nanaimo that was key to successfully reuniting Di Vincenzo with his family.

More than 15 teachers, friends and family members were involved in the search.

"There were some street kids who knew where he was," said Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong, Nanaimo RCMP spokeswoman. "There's a school counsellor in town that they all trust, so they called him. The counsellor was able to reach out to the young kid and, working with the school liaison [members], we were able to get him back home."
