One of two skulls found some 60 kilometres south of Grande Prairie over the May long weekend has been identified.According
to police, the Edmonton medical examiner's office identified one set of
human remains as Rene Gunning, who was last seen in February 2005 at
West Edmonton Mall.

The remains were identified through dental records.Gunning, of Fort St. John, who was 19 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen with Krystle Knott, who is still missing.Police
said the two girls allegedly told friends they were planning to
hitchhike together to either Dawson Creek or Fort St. John, B.C., on
Feb. 18, 2005.The Gunning family, who live in Fort St. John, has been notified.The second set of remains have yet to be identified.Campers discovered the remains – which included two skulls – on May 21 near the Forestry Trunk Road south of Simonette River.Grande
Prairie RCMP notified Project Kare, an investigation unit dedicated to
the deaths and disappearances of women living high-risk lifestyles.Knott, who was 16 when she went missing, is described as First Nations, approximately 5-foot-1 and 121 pounds.She has black hair with possible blonde streaks and brown eyes.

Knott was known to use the aliases Krystle Vankoughnett, Krystle Goulet and Krystle Letendre.She last seen wearing black pants, a black tank top and a fishnet shirt with a white jacket.Members of Project Kare and the medical examiner's office are still investigating the deaths, which are considered suspicious.Police are requesting the help of the public in the ongoing investigation.Anyone
who may have seen Knott, the young women along Highways 16 and 43
between Edmonton and the Forestry Trunk Road, the known hangouts of the
two women or who may have noticed any suspicious activity along the
suspected route of travel is asked to call the Project Kare tip line at
1-877-412-KARE.
