Post by TomTerrific0420 on Sat Feb 04, 2012 1:54 pm

The family of a missing Miramar girl is asking for your help to find
her.Naketa Leiba, 17, was last seen Wednesday in the 68-hundred block of
SW 34 Street. She was supposed to walk home from her bus stop but she
never made it home.

Her mother, Sharon Leiba, said she had two brief
phone conversations with her daughter that afternoon. The second one was
strange, she said.”She said, “Yeah, I’m on the way” and I heard like a
crackling, like the phone fell,” Sharon said.“I know in my heart that she didn’t run away,” Sharon said. “Someone
have her and whoever have her is holding her against her will.”Naketa’s father, Michael, says he can’t eat or sleep.“Every time I put down my head, I hear her screaming in my head,” he said.On Saturday morning, Naketa’s family plans to hand out flyers in the
area near the bus stop and along the path she would’ve taken home. The family is also hoping a business owner or homeowner might have surveillance video that shows her walking. Her parents says Naketa has lots of stuff on her plate.“She was looking forward to go to college,” he mother said.Sharon said Naketa is focused on taking her SAT’s and finishing her
senior year at South Broward High School where she is a top student. Her
parents say she just had a job interview and was excited about a voice
lesson this weekend. On Friday her mother shared her agony with radio listeners, hoping
someone would step forward with information about Naketa’s whereabouts.“Please, please we just want her to come home, we just want her to come,” Sharon said.Naketa’s parents say that last year a man in a car stalked their
daughter several times as she walked home from the bus stop. Police have
not said if that played a role in her disappearance. One of Naketa’s last messages came on Twitter. Her friend Quinton
Laurent said on Wednesday afternoon Naketa tweeted that she was on her
way home.“When I saw that she said she was going home, that made me — that’s when I started to feel worried,” Laurent said. Her parents are beyond worried. They’re fearful of what’s happened to their beloved daughter.“I’m trying not to even think of what she’s going through right now,” Sharon said. “I can’t even think it.”
If you know where Naketa is or have any information about her disappearance, call the Miramar Police Department.

Volunteers have organized a Sunday morning search for a Miramar teen missing from home since Wednesday afternoon.
Naketa
Leiba, 17, was last seen getting off her school bus that afternoon near
the 6800 block of Southwest 34th Street in Miramar.
Peas in their
Pods, a nonprofit group aimed at helping families find missing
children, organized Sunday's search and is asking volunteers to meet at 9
a.m. at Annabel C. Perry Elementary School, at 6850 SW 34th St.

That's where the bus driver
dropped off Leiba before she disappeared. Volunteers will look for her
cellphone or any other clues to her whereabouts, said Margie Patton, a
volunteer with Peas in their Pods.
Patton was among 100 volunteers who spent Saturday passing out fliers with Leiba's photo.
The teen typically takes the bus from South Broward High School
to Annabel C. Perry Elementary, where she either waits for a relative
to pick her up or makes the walk of about 25 minutes home.
The day she vanished, Leiba called her mother, a substitute teacher in Broward County, for a ride home.
Sharon Leiba said she couldn't leave work at the time, and Naketa said she would probably walk home.
About an hour later, Sharon Leiba arrived home and Naketa hasn't shown up since.
Naketa
told her parents that between August and November 2011, a man who
appeared to be in his 60s would call out to her from an older-model
Toyota Camry as she got off the school bus. He followed her, asking for
her name and offering a ride.
The family told police and the
episodes stopped after a male friend began walking home with Naketa, her
mother said. Still, she worries that the man might have something to do
with her daughter's disappearance.
After talking to friends and neighbors, Naketa's parents called police and filed a report around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A
senior at South Broward High School, Naketa, who has short black hair,
is 5-foot-2 and about 135 pounds. She was wearing a red Abercrombie
& Fitch short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans on the day she went
missing.
Miramar police urge anyone with information on Naketa's
whereabouts to call the nearest law enforcement agency or 911
immediately.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -
The family of a teenage girl who has been missing since Wednesday is offering a reward for information as they continue to search for her.

Nekita Leiba, 17, was last seen Wednesday afternoon. Her school bus dropped her off in the 6800 block of Southwest 34th Avenue in Miramar, near where her mother, Sharon Leiba, works as a teacher. Sharon Leiba was delayed for a few minutes, and Nekita told her she would walk.

When Sharon Leiba called to check up on her daughter at about 4 p.m., the call dropped. Her mother kept trying to call her back.

“Did it again, nothing. Did it again, nothing. That was the last time I heard from my baby,” Leiba said.

No one has seen or heard from Nekita Leiba since that afternoon.

“No texts, no tweets, nothing – it’s like she just fell off the face of the earth,” Leiba said.

On Monday, the search moved to the area of Pembroke Road and 52nd Avenue in Hollywood, the last spot where her cellphone was tracked.

The teen's parents are adamant that Nekita, an honor student, didn't just walk away.

"She's not this runaway that the first impression was," Sharon Leiba said. "I just want to bring awareness to the public that this is a child that is abducted. This is a child that’s being held against her will."
Fliers have been posted in restaurants, tax offices and on the Leiba family car, and an Internet radio show spoke about the missing teen.

Nekita Leiba's parents joined volunteers Monday morning to hand out fliers on Pembroke Road.

Nekita Leiba is 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 135 pounds. She was last seen wearing a short-sleeved red shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch and blue jeans.

In addition to the $1,000 Crime Stoppers reward, Nekita Leiba's family is offering an additional $2,000 reward for information.

Naketa Leiba, the Miramar teen who has been the subject of a massive
search led by family, friends and others since she went missing seven
days ago, was found unharmed, police announced early Wednesday.

She had run away, authorities said.

According to police, the
investigation led detectives to an apartment near the 8400 block of
Sherman Circle in Miramar where Leiba, 17, had been staying with a
friend.

She voluntarily gave a sworn statement to police saying that she ran
away from home, was not coerced or held against her will, police said.
Since being located, Leiba has been reunited with her parents, according to police.

Leiba's worried parents had repeatedly expressed their belief that
Naketa was not a runaway and was likely being held against her will.

As recently as Tuesday, her parents continued their effort to find
Naketa – leading a prayer circle before distributing fliers and making
another broadcast appeal for the safe return of their daughter.

Until her recovery, Naketa Leiba had last been seen on the afternoon of
Wednesday, Feb. 1, getting off her school bus near the 6800 block of
Southwest 34th Street in Miramar. Leiba called her mother, a substitute teacher in Broward County,
for a ride home. But her mother, Sharon Leiba, said her school was on a
security lockdown and she couldn't leave. Naketa Leiba told her she
would probably walk home, her mother said.

About an hour later at 4:25 p.m., she told her mother in a phone call
that she was "on my way." That was the last time they spoke, her mother
said.

Between last week and Tuesday, family, friends and supporters had
centered their search efforts around Washington Park, near State Road 7
and Pembroke Road in Hollywood, the last area where Naketa Leiba's
cellphone was believed to have sent out a signal.

Ultimately, Leiba was found about 3 miles from her Miramar home.

There will be more information on this breaking news story as soon as it is available.
