Authorities in northeastern Minnesota have issued a
crime alert for missing 7-year-old boy whose father failed to return
him as ordered by the court.
St. Louis County Sheriff's
officials say the father, James Leon Nordrum Jr., has indicated he would
harm the child if he lost custody. Deputies checking Nordrum's
Brookston home say it appeared Nordrum had taken clothing and vacated
the house.

St. Louis County issued a crime alert through the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for Wyatt Nordrum.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (WCCO) — Ever since a crime alert
was issued for 7-year-old Wyatt Nordrum Tuesday afternoon, police had
been looking for the boy, his father and his grandfather.

Now the grandfather has been located but the search continues for young Wyatt and his 41-year-old father, James Nordrum Jr.

The father has a history of mental issues and reportedly has threatened to harm his son if he were to lose custody.

BROOKSTON, Minn. -- Authorities are still looking for a
seven-year-old boy from northeastern Minnesota who's been missing for a
week now.
Investigators believe Wyatt Nordrum was abducted
by his father, 41-year-old James Nordrum Junior of Brookston. A
statewide alert was issued after Nordrum failed to comply with a
St.Louis County court order and return his son last Tuesday. Custody was
awarded to Wyatt's mother following a year-long custody battle.
The
St. Louis County Sheriff's Office has issued arrest warrant for Nordrum
for deprivation of parental rights. Anyone with information about the
Nordrums is asked to call the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension or
local law enforcement.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in Minnesota say an aerial and
ground search for a missing 7-year-old boy have failed to turn up any
new leads on his disappearance. Authorities believe Wyatt Nordrum is
with his father, who lost custody of the boy.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources helped local official
check property owned by the boy's father and grandfather in St. Louis
County and Carlton County.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of James Nordrum Jr. He failed
to return the boy to authorities on March 27. The Duluth News Tribune
says investigators haven't traced any cell phone or credit card activity
to Nordrum and don't even know what vehicle he may be driving.

The Nordrum missing-child case went national Thursday night as cable
television’s Headline News and host Nancy Grace put the spotlight on
James Nordrum Jr. and his son Wyatt — missing for 11 days now.
Grace
spoke to a cousin on the father’s side of the family and the maternal
grandfather of the boy, Randy Wilde. She also spoke with St. Louis
County Deputy Lt. Jason Lukovsky.
Because of the nature of the
show, none of the guests got to say much of significance. The only new
item revealed came from Nordrum’s cousin, Amy Hill, who said the family
received a text message from Wyatt’s cell phone several days ago
stating: “Hello, how are things going?”
Hill said there has been no other contact with the two.
Lukovsky said he learned about the text Thursday morning, and investigators are checking on the source of the text, which was
allegedly
sent midday Tuesday. He said the 7-year-old boy has a cell phone
because of the ongoing custody and visitation issues between his father
and mother, Candice.
Investigators also expect to see some video
today from the East Bethel area west of Minneapolis. That’s where a
sighting of the pair was reported but has yet to be confirmed.
Candice
lives in Canada, where her parents live and she grew up. She was
granted custody of Wyatt last month after the attorneys for both parents
came to an agreement. Nordrum was supposed to drop Wyatt off at the St.
Louis County Courthouse on March 27 but did not show.
Police issued a statewide alert for the father and son and haven’t heard from them since.
Ground
and aerial searches were done this week on the properties owned by
Wyatt’s father and grandfather in the Brookston area. Nothing was found
to aid in the search.
There have been no financial transactions or cell phone calls to aid in the investigation, police said.
Lukovsky
said speaking on the Nancy Grace show wasn’t ideal, especially after he
learned that his remarks would be sandwiched by comments from both
sides in a heated custody battle. But he’s hoping the national exposure
will help in the investigation.
“It got the pictures out there,”
he said of the show that had photos of the boy and father up on the
screen during most of the show. “That was my only motivation.”

STONEY BROOK, Minn. -- The 7-year-old boy abducted by his father during a custody battle in northern Minnesota has been found safe. His father is hospitalized.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's office, Wyatt Nordrum and his father, 41-year-old James Nordrum, were located around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in a rural cabin in Stoney Brook on the Fond du lac Indian Reservation, about 30 miles west of Duluth.

James Nordrum is being treated at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth for self-inflicted neck injuries. The Sheriff's office says he is in "stable" condition.

James Nordrum was supposed to turn his son over to his wife, Candice, on March 27 at the Saint Louis County Courthouse in Duluth, but failed to show up. James and Candice Nordrum have been involved in a custody dispute for several months in which each of them has been granted full custody of Wyatt at different times. The father's custody of Wyatt had just been revoked, which authorities believe prompted him to take off with the boy.

James Nordrum is in Sheriff's custody for Kidnapping and Depravation of Parental Rights. Additional charges are pending further investigation

The 7-year-old has been reunited with his mother.

St. Louis County Sheriff, Fond du Lac Police Department, Cloquet Police Department, Carlton Co. Sheriff Office, DNR, Anoka County Sheriff Office and MN BCA assisted in the search.
