Five-year-old boy safe after kidnapping in The Dalles, Amber Alert canceled

THE DALLES, Ore. -- A 5-year-old boy who was kidnapped Wednesday morning
during an apparent home invasion in The Dalles has been found safe, and
his suspected abductor is in custody.

The statewide Amber Alert
issued for Skylar Coulcer-Jarding was officially canceled shortly after
8:30 a.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) said, about one-hour after it went
into effect.

A spokesman for OSP confirmed Jarding was safe and would be checked by paramedics. He will eventually be returned to his family.

Jarding was taken from a home in the 2000 block of West 9th Street Wednesday morning, at approximately 5:45 a.m.

Brian
Lester DePriest, 36, the suspect in the home invasion and kidnapping,
is in custody. The Dalles Police Department reported that DePriest, who
resides in The Dalles, was an ex-boyfriend of the boy’s mother. A
restraining order was in effect against him at the time of the
kidnapping.

According to The Dalles Police Department, DePriest
assaulted the boy’s mother and father, identified as 30-year-olds Josh
Allen Jarding and Gayleen Riter, with a hammer during the home invasion.
They have since been treated and released from Mid-Columbia Medical
Center.

DePriest fled the house in a stolen blue-green 1997
Chevrolet Cavalier, OSP said. Both DePriest and the child were located
in Dufur, a Wasco County town south of The Dalles.

The details
of DePriest's arrest were not immediately released. Police have also not
disclosed what charges he could face. He is lodged in the Northern
Oregon Regional Correctional Facility.
