12-year-old girl missing in Seminole County

A 12-year-old girl is missing in Seminole County, and the sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in finding her.

Amanda Anya-Christina McKenna left her home on Palmetto Court in Longwood, officials said, and was intent on walking in a wooded area near Sable Point Elementary School.

Kim Cannaday, a public information officer with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, said McKenna was last seen at about 1:45 p.m. She was earing pink sweat pants, a white long-sleeve shirt and a dark-blue jacket.

Cannaday urged anyone with information about McKenna's whereabouts to call her officer at 407-665-6650.

LONGWOOD, Fla. -

A missing 12-year-old girl was found safe Sunday in Seminole County.

About 10:30 p.m., Amanda Anya-Christina McKenna was located near Lake Brantley Drive in Longwood, deputies said. She was in good condition and was going to be reunited with her family. Deputies said she would also be taken to the hospital for a routine checkup.

Deputies said Amanda Anya-Christina McKenna had left her residence on Palmetto Court in Longwood with the intent to walk in the wooded area near Sable Point Elementary School.

Authorities said the ordeal may have started because the girl had seen "The Hunger Games" movie. According to the watch commander, the girl's sister told authorities Amanda wanted to explore the woods like in the movie.
