Abducted 4-Year-Old Airlifted After Eastman Accident

4:39 PM, May 17, 2013

Before the Amber Alert for Mi-Kurhea Mumford was even issued, the
4-year-old Sumter County girl was being airlifted to a Macon hospital
after a three-car wreck in Eastman.

Mumford suffered a skull fracture, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Michael Jackson says, but is in stable condition Friday in the Medical
Center of Central Georgia's Intensive Care Unit.

Jackson says the girl was ejected from the white Chevrolet Malibu her mother, 24-year-old Priscilla Hurt, was driving when they collided with a white Toyota near the intersection of Highway 341 and Abbeville Highway.

That's near the Wal-Mart in Eastman.

No car seat was found at the scene and authorities do not believe Mi-Kurhea was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Donnie DeLoach, who was driving the Toyota, was also air-lifted to the Medical Center. Jackson says a family member told him DeLoach has pelvic injuries, broken ribs and a broken collarbone, and is awaiting surgery.

Jimmy Joines, a blogger for the Eastman Examiner, told 13WMAZ DeLoach had to be cut out of his vehicle.

Jackson said Hurt was travelling on 341, parallel to the Walmart, when she struck the driver side of DeLoach's car, which was heading toward the Walmart on Abbeville Highway.

The Malibu then skidded across the grass median and rolled over into a third car, a silver Honda Civic driven by Bharatkumar Mistry, who was treated and released.

Hunt was treated for her injuries and turned over to police after the wreck.

Americus Police Sgt. Anthony Jackson says Hurt has been charged with kidnapping her daughter and is in the Sumter County jail.

Mumford had been living with her grandmother, which is where police think she was when Hunt abducted her, Sumter County District Attorney Plez Hardin says.

Hardin says they are waiting to learn more about Mumford's injuries before deciding whether to file other charges against her mother.

According to the Amber Alert sent Thursday, Mumford and Hurt were last seen at 100 Palm Court Springs in Americus, near I-75 in south Georgia.

Jackson told 13WMAZ he was already on the scene of the accident when he received the Amber Alert.

Shortly after the alert was sent Thursday, 13WMAZ confirmed that it had already been canceled because the mother was in custody.

Hurt is not suspected of speeding. However, Jackson says the investigation is on-going because he is still interviewing witnesses to
determine what happened.

"Someone ran the red light," Jackson says, "but I can't say who yet."
