PASADENA, Md. - Anne Arundel County police are asking for assistance on helping find a person that was first reported missing more than 38 years ago.

Police said Karen Kamsch was around 14 years old when she was last seen at her grandmotherís house, located at 51 Wishing Rock Rd. in Pasadena. Her case received increased attention from police on May 14, 2007, when an individual contacted the departmentís missing person unit.

The reporting person indicated Kamsch had moved in with her grandmother, Olga Kamsch, at the Wishing Rock Road address after having problems with her family.

Police said that some time during the winter of 1976, Olga Kamsch was called by school officials at Brooklyn Park High School and was told that Karen was absent from school.

The grandmother returned home and discovered that her granddaughter was not home. She also noted that Karenís personal belongings, along with her winter coat, were still in her room. It had been alleged that Olga Kamsch, now deceased, and Karen Kamschís father, George Norman Kamsch, called the police who took a missing persons report, but no records have ever been located listing Karen Kamsch as a missing person.

When asked why the family waited over 30 years to file a report, Lt. T.J. Smith, spokesman for Anne Arundel Co. Police "... it appears to be just circumstances at the time.† I mean we're dealing with people who grew into adulthood, who might have been children at the time this incident may have taken place in 1976... something nefarious probably happened to her but we're not 100% sure because we don't have her remains."††

Police said Karen Kamsch was born on Jan. 19, 1962, Karen Beth Kamsch in Baltimore and that a check through various computer systems has been unable to verify her existence since 1976.

Detectives have conducted numerous interviews with family, friends, and schoolmates of Karen.† Through these interviews, police believe Kamschís disappearance is suspicious and fear she was the victim of a homicide.†

On Aug. 29, 2007, police executed a search warrant on the grandmotherís home. Police have also released an age progression photo to show what Kamsch might look like today.

Police are asking that anyone with information on this case contact Det. Jason Dipietro of the Homicide Unit at 410-222-3415.

Individuals may also call the Anne Arundel County Homicide Tip Line at 410-923-4543 where they can remain anonymous.

In addition, those with information can contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP, where they can also remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for Kamschís disappearance.
