Upper Darby— Keith Belajonas was ticking long before he exploded.

The 32-year-old New York native referred to African-Americans as “savages,” Mexicans as “beaners” and posted photos of himself online with guns in each hand.

“Wanna shoot someone soooooooo bad right now,” he wrote in a Twitter post in May 2012.

Earlier this year, in a Facebook post about black-on-black crime, he said, “Let the savages kill each other! Don’t point out their stupidity! If they keep killing each other then they just might do my job for me lol.”

Early Thursday morning, Upper Darby police said Belajonas finally acted on his violent impulses by stabbing and shooting his wife, Christina Corrigan-Belajonas, in the presence of their 5- and 4-year-old sons inside a duplex in the 200 block of Abbey Terrace.

“We got a call at 2:30 a.m. for a report of gunshots and when our guys got there, the door was open with blood all over it,” Upper Darby Police Superintendent Mike Chitwood said. “The trail of blood went all the way up to the second floor, where they found a woman, later identified as Christina Belajonas, with what appears to be a gunshot wound to the head and multiple stab wounds. She was laying in the hallway against a closet in almost a sit-up position.”

Corrigan-Belajonas, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upper Darby police contacted Pennsylvania State Police, who put out an Amber alert for Belajonas, who had fled the area with his children in a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder.

“We contacted state police in New York because of his ties up there and the departments with jurisdiction in Staten Island,” Chitwood said. “We later learned that he went into a CVS (in Staten Island) with his kids around 6:15 a.m. where his brother was working. He pulls a gun on his brother, demands, cigarettes, beer and money and takes off — thankfully leaving his kids behind.

“A short time later, police find his car on a residential street and they find him inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”

A man who lives a few doors down from the couple on Abbey Terrace said he saw Belajonas take off in his Pathfinder just before police arrived on the block.

“I came outside by sheer luck and saw the owner of the building, who I know,” said the man, who requested anonymity. “He had just called police. While I was outside, (Belajonas) left. The kids were already in the car. He probably threw them in the back and then took off.”

Belajonas left his boys at the CVS. They were later taken to a Staten Island hospital for evaluation and Chitwood said they were released to their paternal grandmother.

“The father of the victim wants those children, so I can see a protected contest to see who those kids are going to go to,” Chitwood said.

Though physically unharmed, “the older one definitely knows what happened,” Chitwood said. “He was saying, ‘Daddy killed mommy! Daddy killed mommy!’”

A person who noticed a disturbing Facebook post by Keith Belajonas a short time after the murder contacted police to inform them of a possible motive.

“He put up a post that basically said, ‘We had an argument. She cheated. I won,’” Chitwood said, adding that the couple had recently started arguing about the custody of their kids.

Corrigan-Belajonas had been living on the second floor of a duplex on Abbey Terrace for 22 months. Her husband of three years “was in and out,” according to police.

Paul Richards, a longtime resident who lives across the street from the crime scene, said he never saw the couple arguing.

“I saw her out on their little balcony (Wednesday),” he said. “She was jabbering away on the phone with a friend. Occasionally, I would see the kids playing out front and see him using the barbecue. I’m not sure what he did for a living, if he even had a job. His truck was out front all the time. It looked like it never moved.”

Belajonas and Corrigan-Belajonas had no criminal records in Pennsylvania, Chitwood said, and Upper Darby police had never responded to their residence for a disturbance call.

Investigators are checking to see if Belajonas had weapons violations in New York.

Chitwood described the family’s second-floor unit as a pigsty.

“There’s trash and clothes everywhere, roaches and an almost debilitating odor of cat urine,” he said. “Our guys had to put on crime scene suits just to go in there.

“When we release it as a crime scene, I’m going to call the health department and ask that they declare it unfit for human habitation.”

On Thursday afternoon, the owner of the building entered the front door of the premises wearing rubber gloves and carrying paper towels and disinfectant wipes.

According to online posts, Corrigan-Belajonas grew up in Folcroft and was a 2005 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School. She met her future husband in October 2007 and they married four years later. The couple had their first son, Christopher Michael, on Sept. 29, 2008, and their second, Robert Joseph, on Nov. 13, 2009.

“The three of them are my life,” the young mother wrote in early 2010 while living in Staten Island. “I’m currently a stay-at-home mom. I want to pursue a career in nursing and become an RN.”

She later added, “I don’t take stupid things seriously. However, I have one of the worst tempers and a low tolerance for bull—, so don’t piss me off.”

In an October 2010 post, she relayed her intention to apply to St. Paul’s School of Nursing in New York.

According to his Facebook, Twitter and other online accounts, Keith Belajonas had an affinity for porn stars, guns and sports.

His posts include a “Ted Nugent for President” image and another that reads, “If you support gun control, please unfriend me today. Thank you!” He also shared his dislike for President Barack Obama and posted an image that referred to the NAACP as the “National Association of Always Complaining People.”

Police did not know whether Belajonas had a job or where he lived when he wasn’t staying with his family in Upper Darby.

In early 2010, Corrigan-Belajonas described her then-fiancé as “me with a penis.”

Chitwood said Corrigan-Belajonas had been working at Little Flower Manor nursing home in Darby Borough before she was terminated last week. He did not know the grounds for her firing.

Richards said the murder-suicide will not change the way he views his neighborhood of make him feel less secure.

“In this part of Drexel Hill, nothing really happens,” he said. “I view this as a bad domestic dispute. It’s sad.”

Chitwood, whose department is still investigating a murder from last weekend in the 7000 block of Emerson Avenue that stemmed from a domestic dispute, said the only silver lining from Thursday’s tragedy is that more people were not killed.

“The best part about it is those children survived,” he said.
