Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Friday morning after a 2-year-old boy was abducted in Los Angeles.
The California Highway Patrol said Edwin Vargas was taken by Abraham Vargas, 27, at 6:36 a.m. Friday. The suspect was last seen driving a 2004 orange Nissan Quest with California license plate 7CIN189.
Television station KTLA reported the suspect is the boy's father, and that Los Angeles police reported the Nissan was found unoccupied about five hours after the abduction.

The search area for a missing 2-year-old boy who was believed to be kidnapped by his father and headed to Mexico was reduced to the L.A. and San Diego areas, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children stated Sunday.

An Amber Alert was issued Friday morning after 27-year-old Abraham Vargas allegedly stole a minivan in Boyle Heights and took his son, Edwin Vargas.
Abraham Vargas pushed the boy’s mother out of the way as she loaded the child into the vehicle, which was found unoccupied about five hours after the alleged kidnapping.
“The neighbors had seen him, he’d gotten close to me, or spied on me. One time, the police came but they didn’t find him,” the boy’s mother, Beatrice Perez, said in Spanish during a Friday news conference.
Although Perez had obtained a restraining order against Abraham Vargas through a judge, it was never served and therefore not in effect, police stated Friday.
“There was a restraining order on file,” LAPD Capt. Gerardo Lopez said. “He had made previous statements to other folks that if he had the opportunity he would take his child and flee toward Mexico.”
The boy was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and blue sweatpants, Officer Norma Eisenman with Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations said.
Abraham Vargas was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 180 pounds, and wearing a red sweater and blue jeans, Lopez said.
Perez said Abraham Vargas was from Varacruz, Mexico, and she feared he may be headed there.

The Los Angeles City Council and police are expected to announce a $50,000 reward for information leading to the safe return of a 2-year-old boy and the arrest of his father.
The Amber Alert was issued after authorities say Abraham Vargas kidnapped his son on March 23 in Boyle Heights in the 1000 block of Lorena Street. The mother, Beatriz Perez, was putting Edwin in his car seat when the suspect pushed her away and took off in her orange Nissan Quest with the boy. The vehicle was found later that day abandoned in East L.A.
Police received a tip earlier this month that Vargas was spotted near Fourth Avenue and Soto Street in Boyle Heights. The man thought to be Vargas was sporting a new goatee, had a shaved head, and was riding a black "BMX-style" bicycle, according to LAPD Detective Megan Aguilar.
Police said there was a restraining order against the father, and he was not allowed to have the boy. He reportedly told family members that he wants to take the boy to Mexico.
Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.

Los Angeles officials are expected to announce a $50,000 reward Tuesday in the suspected abduction of a 2-year-old Boyle Heights boy, which prompted an Amber Alert last month.
The Los Angeles Police Department accused Abraham Vargas, 27, of abducting his son Edwin Vargas, 2, on May 23.
Edwin's mother had legal custody of the child and told authorities that Abraham Vargas, her ex-boyfriend, took off with the boy in a Nissan minivan in the 1000 block of South Lorena Street.
The mother said she had briefly left the van to get another child, according to police.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
Missing 2-year-old Edwin Vargas, who was abducted by his father from the L.A. area on May 23, was found in Texas Thursday night. Abraham Vargas has been arrested.
Edwin Vargas is in the protective custody of the Department of Children Services. Suspect Abraham Vargas was arrested and was held on a $1 million warrant in Texas.
The L.A. City Council announced a $50,000 reward in June for information leading to Vargas's arrest.
Vargas allegedly took the child from Beatriz Perez, Edwin's mother, in Boyle Heights on May 23. An Amber Alert was immediately issued.
Vargas is also wanted for having unlawful sex with a minor.
