Unexplained death - "Baby John Doe" - 6 Weeks - Fort Smith AR

Fort Smith police are investigating the death of a six week old baby.Police were called to a home in the 5800 block of east Rye Hill Road, after the mother of the child found the baby unresponsive around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.According to police reports, the baby's mother took the infant to bed with her and two other children. She later woke up to feed the baby and realized she wasn't breathing.Officers say the infant had no health problems. An autopsy will be performed. "It's protocol," said Sgt. Daniel Grubbs. "There was nothing on the child that would give any reason or explanation into the cause of the death."No one has been arrested. According to police, the other children in the home are now in state custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
