BREAKING NEWS - Murder charges filed

November 16, 2010

Two days after a toddler was found dead in the refrigerator at her Desha home, capital murder charges were filed against Jesse W. Holloman who lived at the same address.

According to the affidavit filed Tuesday in Independence County Circuit Court, officers were dispatched to a residence at 90 Bufford St. in Desha Sunday in regards to a child not breathing.

By the time police and emergency medical services arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR on a child lying on the ground.

A deputy spoke with the child’s mother who was crying, screaming and extremely distraught.

The affidavit states that the deputy attempted to calm the mother down and asked her what had happened, at which time she said she had gone to work that night and left her daughter with her boyfriend, Holloman.

She told the officer Holloman came to her place of employment that morning while she was feeding breakfast and told her something was wrong with the baby.

When she asked Holloman how he got there, he told her he had walked and he had left her daughter with a neighbor.

According to the report, Holloman then told the mother something had happened to the baby in the night.

In the affidavit, Detective Michael Mundy said he met with the mother at White River Medical Center, where the child was transported to and pronounced dead.

“I met with the mother who was distraught and was in another room with the hospital chaplain. I asked the mother to explain as best she could what had happened and she told me she had left her daughter with her boyfriend Jesse Holloman the previous night while she went to work and he had came to her place of employment this morning."

Mundy said she was told the baby had been left with a neighbor.

“The mother then advised he walked across the room placed his hands on her shoulders and told her the baby had died during the night, at which time she shoved him out of the way and grabbed her purse and drove home at a high rate of speed.

“When she arrived she entered the house, went to the bedroom where they slept and could not find the baby in her crib. She then moved the mattress from her bed in an attempt to locate the baby.”

Mundy said when the mother could not find the child, she went to the neighbor’s house to get help and then ran back to her residence where she noticed all the food from the refrigerator was on the counter. She then opened the door and found her daughter in a box in the refrigerator with a blue net type of cloth over her head. She then ran outside with her daughter where the neighbor called 911 and the neighbor’s husband started CPR.

Mundy said he learned officers had located Holloman.

He said police advised Holloman of his rights and he said he understood them and would answer their questions.

At first, Mundy said Holloman denied knowing the baby and was extremely elusive with his answers.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and Holloman was taken into custody on some outstanding warrants.

Officers from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office did a search of the residence and discovered all the food had been removed from the refrigerator. A box on the floor was torn apart. A blue hair net and a sock that would fit a small child was found in the refrigerator, as well as a hair that matched that of the victim.

Officers also recovered an empty bottle of Amoxicillin, as well as several other items from the crib that had a substance that appeared to have been regurgitated.

Mundy said today he again spoke with Holloman who was once again advised of his rights and Holloman agreed to speak with him.

“It was during this interview that Mr. Holloman became upset and started tearing up and admitted that the baby had died during the night in question and he freaked out and placed the child in the box and then in the refrigerator with a blue cloth over the child’s head. I then asked how it had happened and he said he just woke up to the child being dead. I could see that he was upset and asked him if there was anything else he wanted to tell me and he said ‘no.’”

Mundy said Holloman then wrote out a statement.

While being transported back to the jail, Holloman told the officer while en route that he had killed the baby.

Mundy said when he was told of the confession he asked that Holloman be brought back to his office for further questioning.

“I asked him to tell me what had happened. He then broke down and advised the mother had told him to kill the baby and the dog and that he could not find the dog. He then stated that the baby had been sick for several days and that before the mother left for work they had given the baby Amoxicillin. He then advised he gave her more later.”

Mundy said when he asked how much medicine, Holloman said about half a bottle, but felt it was too much. He also said he gave the child more medication for her stomach.

“He continued and stated the mother told him to place the blue rag over her head and throat, and spray her with hair spray and then place her in the refrigerator,” the affidavit states.

Mundy said he spoke with the mother who said the child had been sick a couple weeks prior, but was better and had not been given any medicine in more than a week.

Mundy said based on the evidence, an affidavit for murder in the first degree was issued for Holloman.

Independence County deputies have arrested 26-year-old Jesse Holloman in the alleged murder of a two-year-old girl.

Deputies say Holloman confessed to killing the child. He's charged with 1st degree murder. A judge set bond at $250,000.

The death was reported on Sunday. Detectives are still not releasing how the child died. Police say the child was being cared for by Holloman.

According to the detectives, Holloman showed up at the mother's work. The police report says Holloman told the mother that something happened to the child during the night and that he "had put her in the refrigerator."

The affidavit says Holloman told police he gave the child a half-bottle of Amoxicillin. According to the affidavit, Holloman told police that he killed the child and put the body in the refrigerator because her mother told him to.

Amoxicillin is used to treat various bacterial infections, such as ear nose and throat infections, as well as pneumonia.

Today's THV spoke with Det. Sgt. Mike Mundy about what led to the arrest.

He explains, "Basically the investigation itself, interviews, and statements made and then corroborated by actual physical evidence that we were able to locate. Basically everything started coming together and we were able to start putting things together. It is a situation where we do want to see justice for this child."

On Monday Mundy told THV, "The mother is pretty much how most mothers would be in this situation. It's pretty devastating. All hands are on deck in this. Every investigator is working on it."

Detectives finished processing the scene Sunday. They were at the home for about five hours. They say they took between six and 12 possible pieces of evidence to the state crime lab. However, they won't say what those items are.

As for a cause of death, police expect to know by Wednesday. Mundy says the child had no visible signs of injury to her body and she had no previous medical conditions.

Mundy says, "You want to cry. You want to holler, but you just have to say ok this is the job and let's find out what's happened."

Arrest in Desha Child's Death, Daycare Reaction
Posted: Nov 16, 2010 4:09 PM EST Updated: Nov 16, 2010 6:54 PM EST

Desha, AR- Deputies charged Jesse Holloman, 26, with the murder of Harley Davidson, 2. Holloman is the boyfriend of Harley's mother Kristy Davidson, 28.

Harley attended Southside Christian Academy daycare in Batesville for a month before she passed away Sunday.

"I hugged her and gave her some juice and that's the last I seen her," said daycare provider Kim Coldwell. She said, "She liked to play with the other kids. She loved to play dress up (that) was her favorite. She loved to get dressed up in hats and dresses. She just loved to play."

She said the entire school staff has been in shock.

"I would look at each little face and think what if it was them and yesterday and today have been very difficult for everyone in our class," said Coldwell.

Harley's bright young spirit was cut short on Sunday. Deputies were called to the mobile home on Bufford St. Sunday afternoon. In the Independence County Sheriff's report the mother, Kristy, was at work at the Independence Inn while her boyfriend, Holloman was supposed to be watching the little girl. Holloman came into the mother's work and told her that something had happened to Harley and that he put her in the refrigerator.

"Hopefully we'll be able to give the mother a little peace," said Detective Sergeant Mike Mundy. He said the investigators did not mind putting in overtime for this case.

"Everybody felt like this needed to be resolved and everyone was willing to do that extra time, no questions asked," said Mundy.

Holloman has been charged with 1st degree murder and has a $250,000 bond set. Deputies are still waiting for cause of death from the autopsy at the Medical Examiner's office.

We spoke to a family member who says they are relieved they arrested Holloman and wanted to stress to all mothers to know who is watching your child.

Harley's funeral is being planned in Pine Bluff where her mother's family is from originally.

In Nov. 2010, deputies said the child was in Holloman's care while the mother was at work. They said he told the mother that something happened to the child during the night and that he "had put her in the refrigerator."

However, police said the investigation later revealed that he had given the child a half bottle of Amoxicillin.
