Father of Murdered Toddler Talks About Pain of Losing Son

Updated: 3/15 7:18 pm

The man accused of beating a two year old Sycamore Township boy to death earlier this week is held without bond. Meanwhile, the grandmother of the toddler says she repeatedly warned the boy's mother about her live-in boyfriend, 32 year old Anthony Pierson. And the boy's father also spoke today with Local 12.

Pierson was arrested late Wednesday night and he is now held on a murder charge. He appeared in court this morning where a judge ordered him held without bond.

Court documents accused Pierson of beating 2 year old James Livesay to death at a mobile home on School Road Monday afternoon. Paramedics were called when the child stopped breathing. He later died at Children's Hospital. The toddler's father, Robert Livesay, recalls the moment he learned of his son's injuries.

"They said they were working on my son, I didn't know what they meant. My heart was racing. I was just standing right by my baby, he opened his eyes one last time and then he gave up. I couldn't stop screaming."

Police say Pierson repeatedly hit the toddler - causing internal injuries. He was babysitting the child at the time, according to court documents. James Livesay's grandmother says she warned the boy's mother, Pamela Burton, that Pierson was "picking"
on the boy over the course of the last year. "I told her and she denied it."

Last summer, James was hospitalized- suffering injuries to his stomach and face. Says his grandmother, "He was in the hospital, in July, with something wrong with his pancreas and they told her, if he gets another blow there, it'll take him."

241-kids was called in and Pierson was supposed to move out. Robert Livesay says that didn't happen. "Anytime someone came over, Pam got him out the back door."

Livesay says recently he saw signs of abuse. "I would pick him up there would be cuts, bruises, his blood vessels in his eyes would be popped. Pam would tell me he got it from crawling under his bed."

Today a judge denied bail for Pierson - but Livesay wants more. "He needs the death penalty."

James' three sisters are staying with relatives. The Department of Job and Family Services is investigating its handling of the case.

Brother Defends Man Accused in Death of Toddler

March 17, 2012 - 9:48 PM
The brother of the man accused of beating a two year old Sycamore
Township boy to death earlier this week says he doesn't believe the
allegations. 32 year old Anthony Pierson is accused of killing 2 year
old James Livesay on Monday but Anthony's brother says he would never
have hurt the child.

Anthony Pierson was arrested late Wednesday
night and he is now held on a murder charge. He appeared in court on
Thursday morning where a judge ordered him held without bond.

Court
documents accused Pierson of beating 2 year old James Livesay to death
at a mobile home on School Road Monday afternoon. Paramedics were called
when the child stopped breathing. He later died at Children's
Hospital. The toddler's father, Robert Livesay, recalls the moment he
learned of his son's injuries. "They said they were working on my son, I
didn't know what they meant. My heart was racing. I was just standing
right by my baby, he opened his eyes one last time and then he gave up. I
couldn't stop screaming."

Police say Pierson repeatedly hit the
toddler - causing internal injuries. He was babysitting the child at the
time, according to court documents. Jeff Pierson says he doesn't
believe his brother could have hurt the boy. "Tony's been with plenty of
people that have children. He has watched their children, never has
this ever happened. Never."

James Livesay's grandmother says she
warned the boy's mother, Pamela Burton, that Pierson was "picking" on
the boy over the course of the last year. "I told her and she denied
it."

Last summer, James was hospitalized- suffering injuries to
his stomach and face. Says his grandmother, "He was in the hospital, in
July, with something wrong with his pancreas and they told her, if he
gets another blow there, it'll take him."

241-kids was called in
and Pierson was supposed to move out. Robert Livesay says that didn't
happen. "Anytime someone came over, Pam got him out the back door."

But
Anthony's brother Jeff says, "Last July when James was in the hospital
for the same symptoms, Tony was no where around. They were at their
father's for a week. And they came here straight from their father's."

Robert
Livesay says recently he saw signs of abuse. "I would pick him up there
would be cuts, bruises, his blood vessels in his eyes would be popped.
Pam would tell me he got it from crawling under his bed."

Jeff
Pierson lays some of the blame with Burton. "She's telling 5 different
stories at the same time. That's why the investigation needs to go on
further. I do agree with Rob, Pamela needs to be in there with Tony
until they find out exactly what happened."

Today a judge denied bail for Pierson - but Livesay wants more. "He needs the death penalty."

James'
three sisters are staying with relatives. The Department of Job and
Family Services is investigating its handling of the case.
