South Side detectives look for missing teen girl
A 16-year-old girl is missing
after disappearing while she headed to her job earlier this week, South Side detectives said today.
Shayla Baylor called her mother on
Monday, saying she was taking the CTA north to her job on the 4700 block
of South State Street, Calumet Area detectives said in an alert issued today.
Baylor, who goes to UIC College Prep, 1231 S. Damen Ave, has not been heard from since, police said.
Baylor is described as black, with a medium complexion, and has
black hair and brown eyes. She stands about 5 feet tall and weighs about
110 pounds. She was last seen wearing khaki school uniform pants, a
burgundy short sleeve polo shirt, a burgundy long-sleeve pullover with
the letters “UIC” on the front. She was carrying a gray backpack.
Anyone who finds Baylor is asked to call Calumet Area detectives at 312-747-8274.

Missing 16-year-old Shayla Baylor’s family, friends
and community on Friday continued canvasing the girl's south side
neighborhood, hoping someone will have information that could help find her.
"We just want her back. We just want to know she's OK," said her father, Alexander Clayborn.
Shayla’s mother, Michelle Clayborn, said her daughter disappeared on Monday.
She said she dropped the girl off at school in the morning. At 6:15 p.m., Clayborn said her daughter
called to let her know she was on the State Street bus on her way to work.
"She sounded fine and that was it. I didn’t see this coming at all," said Clayborn.
The girl's parents don’t believe someone at school could have done this. They said as far as
they new, she didn’t have problems with anyone at her school, UIC College Prep.
The family does seem to be considering that Shayla ran away.
They say some friends of the teen admitted they’d spoken to her.
Community activist Andrew Holmes made it a point to warn anyone who might be helping the girl.
"Anyone that’s eighteen and
older is going to be subject to arrest for holding or harboring this
young lady when they know she’s missing," said Holmes.
Anyone with information on the girl's location should call Calumet Area detectives at 312-747-8274.
