Seventeen-year-old Debbie Frost had a stable family life, a steady
boyfriend and was about to begin her senior year of high school.But on
the evening of July 9, 1984 Debbie disappeared. She was walking home
that night, but never made it.Salt Lake Police opened the
investigation and the case was in the news for weeks. Detectives
interviewed family and friends but no one was ever arrested, leads dried
up and the case grew cold.Then last year, Det. Cody Lougy
re-opened the files as part of an effort by the department to refocus on

Salt Lake City police are looking for information about a man believed to have had a connection with a teen missing since 1984.
Fred Martinez, killed himself in September 1995 at the age of 41. But police believe that talking to people who knew Martinez could help solve the case of 17-year-old Debra Frost.

Frost was last seen July 9, 1984, hitchhiking near 250 East and 200 South after visiting her boyfriend at work.

She had told her boyfriend she was going to 1155 S. Montgomery St. (1577 West), where she resided with friends, according to news stories from 1984. But she never arrived.

The case went cold decades ago.

Last year, however, several anonymous tips led investigators to Rock Springs, Wyo. — and to Martinez, said Salt Lake City police Det. Carlie Wiechman.

"The tip brought us to a police report that shows that police [in Rock Springs] did have contact with Debra 12 days after she went missing," Wiechman said. But that police report has been purged.

"We just know that she did have contact with law enforcement up there that day," Wiechman said.

Police also learned the teen had a connection with Martinez, but are unsure of its nature, she added.

Detectives believe finding out more about who Martinez was could help answer questions about his relationship with Frost. Martinez was known to travel back and forth between Rock Springs and Salt Lake City.

Unnamed sources indicate that Frost’s only connection to Rock Springs was Martinez, police said.

Frost is described as having a burn scar on her left calf, a scar on her nose, freckles and pierced ears.
