Balmorhea,
TX - As the eyes of West Texas work to locate missing Colorado City
teen Hailey Dunn, there is another missing teen whose case is being
brought back into the spotlight, Monica Carrasco.
It's been
almost 8 years since Monica Carrasco disappeared from Balmorhea, now
frustrated investigators who have little to go on are hoping to
reinvigorate the case after her story was featured on Nancy Grace’s
Americas Missing.
16-year old Monica Carrasco was reported
missing the morning of October 2, 2003, from a home she was living in
with her aunt and uncle, her bedroom only yards away from Highway 17.
"From
there she could have gone to the highway, she could have gone almost
anywhere. If she went to the highway someone could have picked her up,
it's a well traveled road to Mexico," said Cpt. Reno Lewis with the
Reeves County Sheriff’s Office.
And with no signs of forced entry, their only thought is she walked away in the middle of the night.
"The
only thing she took with her was her bible and she was wearing a
nightgown. She didn't take shoes and everything was still intact in the
house," said her uncle Rosendo Carrasco.
Days of searching with
half a dozen agencies, horses, helicopters, dogs and even a psychic
turned up nothing, and now more than 7 years later her family is still
grieving.
"It gets hard for the family," said Rosendo.
"Everything's suspicious about her disappearance. Why? Where did she go? We have nothing to lead us any direction," Lewis said.
"She just seemed like she vanished into this air," Rosendo said.
The
Reeves County Sheriff's Office currently have a few tips they are
working on, a very small amount compared to the thousand they were
receiving for the first years of her disappearance.
