Kamloops Mounties are trying to track down a teen who hasn’t been seen in more than three weeks.

Darren Jansen, 17, was last seen on April 6, when he left Kamloops with a backpack full of personal items and about $300 in cash.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said investigators believe Jansen originally travelled to the Lower Mainland, as indicated by text messages and Facebook posts sent to friends and family.

However, police believe he might now be in the 100 Mile House area with a girlfriend, also 17.

Jansen is described as a First Nations teen, but he appears to be white.

He stands six feet tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans, a light blue hat and a black jacket with red and white patches.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Kamloops RCMP are still seeking public and media assistance in locating Darren Jansen, 17.

Family and friends are concerned and want to ensure that Jansen’s health and welfare needs are being properly maintained. Any information regarding the location of 17-year-old Darren Jansen can be provided to the police agency in your jurisdiction or to Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

July 20, 2011 - KAMLOOPS CITY, B.C. – Local detectives are appealing to the public for help in finding 17-year-old Darren Jansen who left his North Shore home on April 6th and has not returned since.

Jansen left home with a back pack containing personal items, clothing and some $300 dollars in cash.

He is described as Metis (mixed American Indian and European ancestry), 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing jeans, a light blue hat, a black jacket with red and white patches.

Jansen has left home on numerous occasions in the past but never for so long before his mother said, worried for her son’s health and safety.

He has sent occasional text and face book messages since to friends and family. Third hand information given to the Kamloops RCMP on July 2nd indicated that Jansen had allegedly sent a message that he was alright while playing an on-line game of XBOX.

Police inquiries have been unable to verify these reports. Accumulating information suggests that Jansen is not missing but is being purposely reclusive and evading contact with the authorities. Investigators have reason to believe that Jansen may have sought refuge with acquaintances in the Caribou area.
