HYDERABAD: Another baby went missing from the state-run Niloufer Hospital on Monday night, the second such case in the last two months. Parents of the child, Bandaru Venkat and Sunita who hail from Armoor in Nizamabad district, alleged that their 11-month-old son Ajay was kidnapped by a burqa clad woman when the child was in his grandmother's care.
The couple had come to the city on Sunday to get their elder son Rakesh, 2, treated for a kidney ailment and the boy was admitted to the hospital on the same day. While Sunita was attending to her ailing son inside the intensive care unit, she handed over Ajay to her mother-in-law. The burqa clad woman sweet-talked the lonely old woman. "When the baby started crying, the woman cradled him for some time and after that he fell asleep. Later seeing the granny too in deep sleep, she escaped with the baby," said Ajay's father who is a daily wage labourer.
The police who reached the spot after the hospital authorities lodged a complaint said that although the security guards questioned her while she was heading out of the hospital, she convinced them by saying that the family were her neighbours and that due to suffocation, the boy was crying and needed some fresh air. It was at 2 am, some time after the woman made a clean exit that the family realised that the baby was missing.
