Police have set up an information caravan in Boronia in a bid to find a 13-year-old girl who has been missing for a week.

Siriyakorn Siriboon, who is of Thai orgin, is about 154
centimetres tall, has a slim build and long black hair. She was last
seen wearing her blue and white school uniform.

Police will man the caravan from 7.30-10am today at Albert Avenue and then move it to Boronia Station.

She was last seen by her parents leaving for school about 8am but the teenager did not make it there.

Police and Siriyakorn's family are very concerned for her welfare as it is out of character for her to disappear.

Siriyakorn's father, Fred Pattison has distributed
posters in and around Boronia and has been on Melbourne radio appealing
for information on his missing daughter.

Updated: July 17, 2011 - A missing girl's secret online life has emerged as a key clue to her disappearance as the homicide squad joins the investigation.

Siriyakorn "Bung" Siriboon, 13, had three Facebook sites - some under false identities - and was active elsewhere on the web in the weeks before she vanished from Boronia on June 2.

Her heavy use of social networking sites will be a focus of the hunt.

Homicide detectives have been called into Siriyakorn's case, two weeks after she disappeared.

Her family is known to have been worried about her meeting new people on the internet before she vanished.

Searchers today will scour an area of Boronia near the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.

Siriyakorn disappeared on her way to school and police believe it is increasingly unlikely she has run away. Det Sen-Constable Ian Brown, of Knox CIU, said: "Because of her age and the time that's gone, we're extremely concerned for her welfare."

Nine weeks since she disappeared, police are calling for help to try to find missing schoolgirl Siriyakorn Siriboon, whom they fear has been abducted.

Investigators believe that schoolgirl, nicknamed Bung, was abducted and continue to hold grave fears for her safety.

Inspector John Potter of the Homicide Squad said someone knows what's happened to Bung.

'It is impossible for a 13-year-old girl to vanish off the face of the earth without someone knowing about it,' he said.

'Someone in the community knows exactly what has occurred and who is responsible for this and we are pleading with them to provide that information to police.'

He said Bung is a quiet and respectful 13-year-old girl who comes from a stable and happy home life.

'I don't think any of us can or would want to imagine the pain of being in the same position as Bung's family and it has been an incredibly difficult nine weeks for them.'

He said experienced investigators are working on the case, but they can't do it alone and need the community's help.

Police have received over 500 calls from the public since the investigation began and detectives have been following up all avenues of enquiry that information has provided.

They have also been cross-referencing the files of known sex offenders and are continuing to conduct door knocks throughout the area.

Inspector Potter said he hoped someone would hear the plea from police and Bung's family and come forward.

'I know we say it time and time again, but we are only ever potentially one phone call away from solving this,' he said.

POLICE suspect the person who kidnapped schoolgirl Siriyakorn "Bung" Siriboon lives in the area where she vanished.

Homicide squad detectives have revealed they had tracked her to a spot 130m from her school in Boronia.

Det-Insp John Potter said the sighting indicated 13-year-old Bung intended to go to school but met with foul play on the morning she vanished, June 2 last year.

Insp Potter said the final sighting came as she made her way along Harcourt Rd, just before beginning the short walk along Moncoe St to Boronia Heights College, at 8.55am.

"We don't know what happened to Bung in those 130m, but clearly it's that short distance in which she's gone missing," he said.

Insp Potter said there was a strong chance the person responsible lived nearby.

"It is every likelihood that the person is local," he said. "We're hoping this information will lead to a credible suspect."

Taskforce Puma, a team of officers assigned to the case last year, remains at full strength.
Insp Potter said detectives kept working through lists of registered sex offenders and 600 calls from the public offering information.

"We hope for the best but fear the worst," he said.

The area in Harcourt Rd where Bung was last seen is lined with mostly weatherboard homes with front fences or hedging.

Local resident Rachel said it was surprising to hear news of Bung being seen in the street.

"They said something about a local person that could be involved so that's ... a massive concern.

"But I guess if it's closer to the case being solved, that's a positive thing."

Rachel said she felt for Bung's family.

"That's the saddest part, especially in a community that is not considered to be in such a bad area. It's a really safe area, but you can't really say that now I guess."

She said the street was busy enough that if there had been "any commotion" on the day somebody would have noticed.

Ange Panagiotou said it was a good area and he was not worried by the news.
