Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
The often vilified former pro-bono attorney for the biological
mother of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings who was abducted from her
Satsuma, FL home in February is walking away this week with some sense
of vindication.
The Florida Bar Association has dismissed the complaints against
attorney Kim Picazio alleged by Crystal Sheffield The Florida Bar File
No. 2010-50,286 (171)
In the complaint, Crystal Sheffield alleged that:
“…Ms. Picazio violated Rule 4-1.6 by disclosing confidential
information concerning her representation of Crystal related to the
search and investigation of her missing child, Haleigh Cummings.
Crystal also contend that Ms. Picazio did not act with diligence in
filing a modification of he child support. Ms. Picazio responded to the
allegations in the complaint and rebuttal with specific denials of each
allegation and a detailed history of her involvement in the case.”
One of Picazio’s rebuttals to the complaint was rather harmful to Crystal Sheffield and the perception some may have of her:
“…Ms. Picazio also contends that your current living situation,
health concerns, inability to work, and drug addiction/seizures
prevented her from filing a petition for a change in custody. All
lawyers, as officers of the court, have an obligation to refrain from
filing frivolous pleadings or papers, and may.be subject
to court-imposed sanctions for having done so, This.is an area that
falls within the exercise of professional judgment by the lawyer, and
is not appropriate as a reason for discipline to be imposed.”

Tommy Croslin, the brother of the woman who is the last person to
seeing missing 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings of Satsuma, FL is once again
behind bars in Putnam County. Croslin was arrested Thursday on a
battery charge for fighting with his father and is being held without
bond.

redacted from the report.
Lisa stated that Tommy had started the fight. Lisa stated that Tommy
had thrown a bag of DVD’s at Hank and Hank got upset. Lisa stated Tommy
then hit Hank in the head and they started to fight. Lisa refused to
write a written statement.
Three of Tommy’s children were also present during the disturbance.
Just days ago, a judge granted Misty Croslin’s request to remove a
restraining order against her brother Tommy following a fight between
her then-husband Ronald Cummings and him.
Misty Croslin’s brother Tommy was first arrested this past summer on
a gun theft charge at which time during his incarceration he told
police he checked on the mobile home of Ronald Cummings where his
sister was to be watching his children, Haleigh and Ron Jr. the night
of Haleigh’s disappearance. It was that time he stated he banged on the
door and got no answer stating to police he believed no one was home.
This fed into tips received early in the investigation that Misty had
left the home sometime during the night while Ronald Cummings was
working at PDM in Palatka, FL.
Tommy was released on a reduced bond under the condition he remained in Putnam County.
A few weeks ago, Tommy Croslin was arrested on drug charges after
being found passed out in his car with drugs in the front seat near the
place where he had dropped of one of his children to get on the school
bus.
The fact that Kristina Rene “Nay Nay” Prevatt and the unidentified
white 17-year-old female witness to the fight Thursday morning–widely
believed to be Misty Croslin–who were both at the scene has raised the
eyebrows of many including Private Investigator William “Cobra” Staubs.
Prevatt has a history of jail time in Putnam County on drug charges
and assorted misdemeanors and has admitted to Private Investigator
Staubs that she introduced Misty Croslin to a man named Greg Page.
Prevatt also admitted to Staubs that she served as Misty’s driver
during that weekend of sex and drugs with Page days before little
Haleigh Cummings was taken from her home while in Misty’s care the
night of February 9, 2009.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
Christmas lights are newly strung at Haleigh Cummings' father's and great-grandmother's home in Welaka in Putnam County.
However, the banner with the missing child's picture on it in the front yard may be the most important addition.
Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great-grandmother, said her family is having a hard time this Thanksgiving.
"It's really hard to give thanks when part of your heart and family
is not here and you don't know where they are," Sykes said as a tear
rolled down her cheek.
Sykes said her family doesn't feel much like decorating for the
holidays, but it was important to do it for Haleigh's younger brother.
"If it weren't for Junior, we probably wouldn't," Sykes explained, "but he has to have some kind of normal life."
As for the investigation, Johnny Greenwood with the Putnam County
Sheriff's Office said detectives and an FDLE agent are reviewing tips
they have received about the Haleigh Cummings case.
At Hill's Hardware in Pomona Park in southern Putnam County, the
seasonal message on an outdoor sign changes. However, the part that
reads "Pray for Haleigh" has been up since February when she
disappeared.
That's sad for John Woods, the employee who was inserting letters to spell "Happy Thanksgiving."
Woods said, "It's real sad. I'm real sad because I just had a little baby girl. I'd be sad if my girl come up missing."
Rodney Sheffield of Hill's Hardware told reporters, "We have
been through a lot in Palatka looking for [Haleigh] and so forth. Our
hope is they'll find her, hopefully alive and if not, at least it'll
bring closure."
He looked at the sign and added, "One more prayer may help."
Back at Sykes' home in Welaka, red ribbons are tied to the trees.
They're not for Christmas. Those ribbons have been up for months there.
They are ribbons of hope for a little girl's safe return.
"Somebody's got to know something, and that person can come forward" without being identified, Sykes said.
As Christmas lights line her home and while telephone poles along
the highway don festive lights as well, the signs of the holiday season
seem to be all over Putnam County.
But there's still no sign of the little girl.
Haleigh was 5-years-old when she vanished Feb. 10 from her father's mobile home, just outside the community of Satsuma.
Misty Croslin, Haleigh's father's ex-wife, was babysitting Haleigh that
night when she said she awoke about 3 a.m. and noticed the kitchen
light on. The back door was propped open with a brick and Haleigh was
missing.
Despite extensive searches and a $35,000 reward, Haleigh has not been found.
If you have information that can help investigators,
you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS. You can remain
anonymous and could receive a cash reward if your tip leads to an

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
It has been almost ten months since Haleigh Cummings was taken from
her Satsuma home in the middle of the night. Her family is getting
ready for Christmas, but the idea of spending the holiday without
Haleigh, is almost too much to bear. "If I could get anything
for Christmas, it would be Haleigh. No doubt. That's all I want for
Christmas," said Haleigh's father Ronald Cummings. Ronald
invited Action News teams over to his house to speak with him and his
mother about the holidays. Ronald has moved a massive memorial filled
with Haleigh's toys and pictures to the main room of the Welaka home
hes staying in. The memorial takes up an entire wall of the living room. Christmas
was Haleigh's holiday, according to Ronald and his mother. On
Christmas, Haleigh was one of the most animated of all the children who
came over to enjoy the holiday. "It's just going to be horrible if shes not here," said Haleigh's Grandmother Teresa Neves. Ronald
remembers the holidays when Haleigh was home as well. "A typical
Christmas would be the whole family gets together at my grandmas house.
We eat a real big dinner, and then we open a lot of presents when were
done eating. A lot of presents, a lot of smiles from the children. It's
going to be hard," said Ronald. Ronald says the reason they are even celebrating this year is for Haleigh's 4-year-old brother, Ronald Jr. Haleigh's
grandmother says whenever they're out shopping for presents, Ronald Jr.

her go. You can have anything we have, just bring our little girl
home," said Teresa Neves with tears in her eyes. "Thanks to all
the law enforcement that was involved in helping look for Haleigh.
Thanks for all the ones still looking for her. Please continue to look
for her. I need to find my daughter. She's not yours. She has a family
who loves her," said Haleigh's father Ron. A candlelight vigil
will be held on the night of December 10, to keep the awareness up
about Haleigh. The reward for information on Haleigh's whereabouts now

This case makes me angry, there is no reason that Haleigh has not been found yet. There has got to be something they can arrest Misty on and personally, I think Ron has a hand in it somehow. If your child was missing would you be this quiet? Nope, didn't think so--I'd be screaming from the rooftops. From this point on, when I see the media covering bs like Tiger Woods, I will be sending letters reminding them of Haleigh.
Also, with all that has happened and, LE knows there's drug issues...WTH hasn't Jr. been pulled from that dang family??? There's something rotten in Denmark and it isn't the cheese!

The grandmothers of Haleigh Cummings said they want the FBI to take complete control of the investigation.
Haleigh was 5 when she vanished Feb. 10 from her father's mobile home, just outside the community of Satsuma.

Haleigh's grandmothers Teresa Neves and Marie Griffis said 10-months
is too long to go without answers about Haleigh's disappearance.
Haleigh's paternal grandmother, Neves, said she wants Gov. Charlie Crist to involve the FBI.
Griffis, Haleigh's maternal grandmother, said a federal probe is
needed because Haleigh was abducted from a jurisdiction that is
extremely corrupt.
Both grandmothers have vowed not to stop fighting until Haleigh is found.

Poster's Note: With all of the folks in this family, on both sides, in trouble with the law, have we ever considered that Haleigh ran away and doesn't want to be found? Just sayin'...
Authorities in Putnam County, Fla., said a relative of missing child
Haleigh Cummings was arrested for allegedly discharging a firearm in
public.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office alleges in an incident report
that Freddie Wayne Cummings, uncle of Haleigh Cummings' father, was
facing a firearms charge for firing a gun into the air and ground
during a physical confrontation last weekend, the media has reported.
The elder Cummings could also face domestic and simple battery
charges for allegedly slapping a bartender and punching his sisters
during Sunday's incident. Those charges were forwarded to the Florida
State Attorney's Office.
Haleigh Cummings was five years old when she disappeared from a
motor home in Satsuma, Fla., in February. The young girl has yet to be
found.
Following the girl's disappearance, employees
at the Hide Away Bar where Sunday's incident took place held a
fundraiser to help Cummings' family.

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- Another holiday has come and gone, and Haleigh
Cummings' family still does not know what happened to their little girl.
Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, said Christmas was extremely difficult.
"There were a lot of things we didn't do. We didn't go all out
because she wasn't there," Sheffield said through tears. "We let the
kids open their presents three days before Christmas because I couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it on Christmas Day."
Haleigh disappeared from her father's home in Satsuma in Putnam County in February. She was 5. Searches have turned up nothing in her case.
Sheffield said she feels law enforcement, specifically the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, is not doing enough to investigate her daughter's case.
"It's gone on long enough for them not to know anything,"
Sheffield sobbed. "I just don't understand. I want answers. I want to
know what's going on. I want to know what clues they do have."
Linda Dayson and Robert Dove work with the Jacksonville-based
organization Hurting Families With Children in Crime. It supports
families who are victims of crime.
The organization is supporting Sheffield and the rest of Haleigh's family.
Dayson said, "I don't believe Putnam County is doing the best they can
do with this ongoing search. We don't want this to be another cold
case."
She wants surrounding law enforcement agencies to help the PCSO.
PCSO Lt. Johnny Greenwood said a team of investigators just met with Sheffield and her family in November.
Greenwood said investigators got the family "up to speed on the case."
Investigators also asked if the family had any questions, he said.
Greenwood said the sheriff's office has some of the "best people in the
country" working on Haleigh's case. They include individuals from the
FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Dayson and Dove also want detectives to crack down on Misty Croslin
Cummings -- the person who put Haleigh to bed the night she
disappeared.
"I would like to see them really interrogate Misty. Pressure her,"
Dove said.
Sheffield said she also feels investigators have not done enough when it comes to Cummings.
"She was the last one to see my daughter," Sheffield said with frustration.
Investigators still feel Cummings holds the key to the case,
Greenwood said. He added that they have spent hours interviewing her
and take every opportunity to speak to her about the case.
Greenwood said some new information has come to light about what
happened in the days leading up to Haleigh's disappearance - as well as
what happened the night she vanished.
However, he would not elaborate because he said he did not want to jeopardize the case.

Palatka's #1 Story for 2009
On Feb. 10 at 3:27 a.m., the now 6-year-old blond-haired, hazel-eyed kindergartner was reported missing from her Satsuma home.
Her
17-year-old babysitter, who then went by Misty Croslin, reported her
missing after she awoke at 3 a.m. to use the restroom and noticed
Haleigh's bed empty.
Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, was
returning from his night shift at his job working for PDM Bridge when
Croslin told him sobering news.
An Amber Alert awaited the
nation at 8 a.m. while law enforcement commenced massive searches
involving helicopters, dive squads, canine units and search teams.
The homes of registered sex offenders were investigated while roadblocks required vehicle searches.
Two
separate camps were soon erected in the neighborhood, housing the
maternal and paternal sides of Haleigh's family in decorated tents. For
over a month, they remained aglow with hundreds of candles used in
nightly vigils.
Supporters from throughout the country trekked
to Satsuma to offer help and sympathy to the family, while media buzzed
throughout the two camps conducting interviews and updates.
The couple, as well as Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, all took on attorneys to help manage public attention.
Funds
were set up to raise money for Haleigh, which were used to print fliers
and T-shirts, which allowed the 6-year-old's face to become a familar
sight.
A "Haleigh House" building was even rented by Sheffield
to be used as a fundraising and information shelter. The once-purple
building is now in other hands.
Little was revealed within the
investigation. No sign of the child could be found, and trained canines
could not trace Haleigh's scent.
Almost exactly a month after Haleigh's disappearance, Croslin married Haleigh's father.
Because
she was under 18, Croslin obtained signed permission from her parents
before the two were wed at a Welaka family member's home.
The
couple held custody of Haleigh's younger brother, Ronald Junior, though
an investigation by the Department of Children and Family Services was
conducted at the request of Sheffield's attorney.
Headlines on
nationwide media outlets broadcasted the drama unfolding, soon to turn
into a Jerry Springer-like meltdown that would encompass the next six
months.
Authorities have said Misty Croslin - now known as Misty
Cummings - continued to deliver conflicting stories. They have also
said numerous inconsistencies have been noted in her account of what
took place between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. the evening Haleigh disappeared.
Investigators
have also repeated that she is the crucial link to solving the child's
disappearance, and she "continues to hold important answers."
The
couple appeared on television talk shows, including CNN's Nancy Grace
and CBS's "The Early Show," to answer questions and replay the events
of Haleigh's final evening at home.
In late August, Cummings
failed a series of tests taken in an effort to discover more
information according to EquuSearch founder Tim Miller.
After seven months, Haleigh's father divorced the former babysitter, citing too much public attention and pressure.
Despite
FBI and Florida Department of Law enforcement assistance to local law
enforcement, no sign of Haleigh has been found, and an Amber Alert
remains for what has become Putnam County's missing angel.

Amber Alert System Anniversary; Haleigh Cummings Still Not Found

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- It's been 14 years since Amber Hagerman was abducted and killed in Texas.
Every Jan. 13 since, the Department of Justice remembers her as the inspiration for the nation's Amber Alert system.
Since the system was implemented in Florida in 2000, there have been 149 alerts issued, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said 51 children statewide have been found as a direct result of the Amber Alert system.
The state has a website that lets people sign up to receive Amber Alerts via email or text messages, and so far more than 30,000 people have done so.
"Signing up for Amber Alerts is a small act that has tremendous lifesaving potential," FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey said. "Time is of the essence in these cases ...Tips from the public often provide the piece of information needed to locate an abducted child."
There is an unsolved Amber Alert in northeast Florida for Haleigh Cummings who disappeared from her Satsuma home in February and has not been found.

Press Release from Putnam County LE
Date: January 20, 2010
On January 20, 2010, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s
Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, HIDTA Tri-County Drug
Task Force, and the Office of the State Attorney, 7th Judicial Circuit,
concluded a month-long undercover operation with the arrest of four (4)
Satsuma residents and one (1) individual from Orlando for trafficking
in controlled prescription medications.
During the operation, investigators made several purchases of Oxycodone and Hydrocodone
medications from these individuals. Ronald Lemyles Cummings, Misty
Janette Croslin, Hank Thomas “Tommy” Croslin Jr., Hope A. Sykes, and
Orlando resident Donna Broch, were arrested and charged with
trafficking in controlled prescription medications. If convicted as
charged, Ronald Cummings, Misty Cummings, and Donna Broch, could
receive a minimum mandatory sentence of twenty-five (25) years in state
prison. If convicted, the other individuals can receive minimum
sentences ranging from three (3) years to fifteen (15) years in state
prison. An undercover Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Detective
purchased large quantities of prescription medications from this group
on seven (7) separate occasions. The estimated street value of
prescription drugs seized is $3,900.00.
Today, the second phase of
the operation was concluded. Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin
purchased trafficking amounts of prescription medications from
undercover investigators. Both individuals were immediately arrested
and taken into custody without incident. The other individuals were
arrested on active arrest warrants resulting from this investigation.
The following list details the charges and bonds for the subjects
involved in this case:
Misty Janette Croslin, DOB: 12/09/1991 –
Six (6) Counts of trafficking in Prescription Medications (Bond – $950,000.00)
Ronald Lemyles Cummings, DOB: 10/29/1983 –
Three (3) Counts of Trafficking in Prescription Medications (Bond – $500,000.00)
Hank “Tommy” Croslin Jr., DOB: 08/02/1986 –
One (1) Count of Trafficking in Prescription Medications (Bond - $100,000.00)
Hope A. Sykes, DOB: 03/24/1991 –
One (1) Count of Trafficking in Prescription Medications (Bond - $150,000)
Donna Broch –
One (1) Count of Trafficking in Prescription Medications (Bond - $250,000.00)
This operation was in response to the growing problem of the illegal sale
and distribution of prescription drugs within Putnam County and
surrounding areas. Prescription drug abuse is rapidly on the rise in
Putnam County, and is one of the toughest crimes for law enforcement to
combat. Most dealers are merchants of their own addiction, and sell
these prescription medications to simply support their own habit.
Information was obtained that these individuals were unlawfully selling
prescription medications in the community. Sheriff Hardy assigned
detectives from the Drug/Vice Unit to the investigation. An undercover
Putnam County Detective infiltrated this group, gaining the trust of
these drug dealers.
Sheriff Hardy acknowledges the rise in
prescription medication crimes in our community, and understands that
this is a precursor to many other crimes affecting our citizens. He has
instructed his investigators to not only aggressively pursue the
subjects who are illegally selling prescription medications, but also
the individuals who are unlawfully possessing and using these highly
addictive drugs.
As stated in previous releases, investigators
assigned to the Haleigh Cummings investigation will take every
available opportunity to speak with any individual believed to have
knowledge about Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance.

The father of a missing Putnam County girl and his ex-wife were
among five people arrested Wednesday following a month-long
investigation into trafficking in controlled prescription medications,
the Putnam County Sheriff's Office reported.Arrested were Ronald
L. Cummings, 26, Misty Croslin, 18, Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., 23, and
Hope A. Sykes, 18, all of Satsuma, and Donna Broch of Orlando.Cummings
is the father of Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared from the home she
shared with him and his then-girlfriend Misty Croslin in Satsuma in
February 2009.Misty Croslin was reportedly home alone with the
girl, then 5, and the child's younger brother when the girl apparently
vanished overnight. No trace of Haleigh has been reported since
in spite of an intensive and repeated search in the area, numerous tips
to officers and an ongoing investigation by the Sheriff's Office and
other agencies.Since the girl's disappearance, Cummings and
Misty Croslin have had repeated run-ins with law enforcement on
unrelated cases such as a fight involving them and Hank Croslin Jr.,
Misty Croslin's brother, in August 2009.Cummings, Misty Croslin
and Hank Croslin Jr. were released from the Putnam County jail late
Wednesday, according to jail records. Sykes remained in custody at the
facility. More details about Broch's arrest were not immediately
available.Misty Croslin is facing six counts of trafficking in
prescription medications. Three counts of the same charge are pending
against Cummings, and one against Hank Croslin Jr., Sykes and Broch,
according to the Sheriff's Office. If convicted as charged, Misty
Croslin, Cummings and Broch could receive a minimum mandatory sentence
of 25 years in prison. The others are facing minimum sentences ranging
from three to 15 years in prisonInvestigators allege they
purchased Oxycodone and Hydrocodone from the five on seven different
occasions. The estimated street value of the drugs seized was $3,900.A
statement from the Sheriff's Office reported the undercover operation
"was in response to the growing problem of the illegal sale and
distribution of prescription drugs within Putnam County and surrounding
areas."The agency received information that the group had been
selling prescription medicine, detectives were assigned to the case
from the department's Drug/Vice Unit and a Putnam County Sheriff's
deputy went undercover, "gaining the trust" of the suspects, according
to the Sheriff's Office. As for any ties to the missing child,
the same Sheriff's Office statement reported, "Investigators assigned
to the Haleigh Cummings investigation will take every available
opportunity to speak with any individual believed to have knowledge
about Haleigh Cummings' disappearance."The Florida Department of

among five people arrested Wednesday following a month-long
investigation into trafficking in controlled prescription medications,
the Putnam County Sheriff's Office reported.Arrested were Ronald
As for any ties to the missing child,
the same Sheriff's Office statement reported, "Investigators assigned
to the Haleigh Cummings investigation will take every available
opportunity to speak with any individual believed to have knowledge
about Haleigh Cummings' disappearance."The Florida Department of
Law Enforcement, the HIDTA Tri-County Drug Task Force and the State
Attorney's Office for the 7th Judicial Circuit were all involved in the
drug investigation along with the Sheriff's Office.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
PALAKTA, FL -- The father of Haleigh Cummings, his ex-wife and her
brother are scheduled to be in court Thursday morning to face drug
trafficking charges.
Several law enforcement agencies Wednesday night arrested
26-year-old Ronald Cummings, 18-year-old Misty Croslin, and 23-year-old
Tommy Croslin on charges of trafficking in prescription medications.
The arrests happened more than eleven months after the disappearance
of Haleigh Cummings, Ronald's daughter, while in the care of Misty
Croslin.
Haleigh, 5 years old at the time of her disappearance, vanished
sometime after Croslin said she put the girl to bed at the couple's
home in Satsuma.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said its investigation began when
a tipster told authorities the group had been selling drugs.
Investigators say a total of seven buys took place, all involving the drugs Hydrocodone and Oxycodone.
Authorities arrested five people in all. Hope Sykes, a cousin of
Ronald Cummings, is among them along with Donna Broch of Orlando.
Misty Croslin faces six counts of trafficking in prescription
medications. She's being held on a $950,000 bond at the St. Johns
County Detention Center.
Ronald Cummings faces three counts of trafficking in prescription
medications. He was held on a $500,000 bond at the Putnam County Jail
Wednesday night and later booked into the Flagler County Jail.
Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr. faces one count of trafficking in
prescription medications. He's being held on a $100,000 bond at the St.
Johns County Detention Center.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said the arrests will give
investigators a chance to question the group about the disappearance of
Haleigh Cummings.
The little girl hasn't been seen since she went to bed on the night
of February 9. Misty Croslin said she tucked the girl in around 8
p.m. Seven hours later, Misty noticed Haleigh missing.
Misty Croslin lived in the house with Ronald Cummings. The two
married several weeks after Haleigh disappeared, spent part of their
honeymoon in New York City while appearing on NBC's The Today Show, and
ultimately divorced last fall.
Investigators say Misty Croslin may hold the key to finding Haleigh.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
A tipster led Putnam County officials to suspect that the father and former stepmother of missing Satsuma girl Haleigh Cummings were involved in prescription drug trafficking, officials say.
That's when they arranged to have an undercover detective purchase more than 300 pills – in the oxycodone
and hydrocodone families – during seven recent controlled buys,
according to Lt. Johnny Greenwood with the Putnam County Sheriff's
Office.
"It was our undercover detective that infiltrated the group," Greenwood said today.
Now,
Ronald Cummings, 26, and Misty Croslin, 18, could face a
minimum-mandatory sentence of 25 years in state prison after their
arrests on multiple counts of trafficking in prescription medications,
according to a news release sent out by the sheriff's office Wednesday.
The
father and former stepmother of the missing girl were among five people
arrested Wednesday in the prescription drug trafficking sting, Putnam
County deputy sheriffs said.
Haleigh Cummings, then 5, captured
national headlines when she disappeared from her father Ronald
Cummings' double-wide trailer in February.
Croslin was baby-sitting
the girl while Cummings was working a night shift. She told
investigators that she woke up and realized Haleigh was gone about 3:30
a.m.
There were no signs of forced entry, and the back door was
ajar. At the time, Croslin was Cummings' girlfriend. They have since
married and divorced.
Haleigh's body has not been found and there have been no arrests in her disappearance.
Today,
Greenwood said the drug case and the case involving Haleigh's
disappearance remain separate, but he expects the two investigations to
intersect at some point in the future.
"These two investigations will collide," Greenwood said. "Their paths will cross eventually."
However,
he said it was not the investigation's intent to develop the drug case
in order to make progress on the young girl's disappearance, which is
approaching its one-year anniversary.
"Hopefully, something will
come out of it on the Haleigh side, but that was not the intention,"
Greenwood said. "This was totally unrelated. It was a very good
narcotics case."
Misty Croslin was particularly active in the
prescription drug operation, officials said. As in many other parts of
Florida and the country, prescription drugs have become a growing
problem in Putnam County and nearby counties.
"She [Misty Croslin]
was involved in all of them [the drug purchases]," Greenwood said. "She
was the common denominator in all seven buys."
Felony warrants obtained by the Orlando Sentinel
today indicate that Misty Croslin was found selling or holding
oxycodone and hydrocodone in Putnam and St. Johns counties on several
occasions last month and this month. Twice she had or sold more than 28
grams of the drug, the warrants state.
Since the missing child's
case drew national attention in early February, Croslin has been no
stranger to the law. In October, Palatka police said she was robbed
while trying to buy drugs in that town.
When asked about the
familiarity of Misty Croslin and Ronald Cummings and their alleged
dealing, Greenwood said, "They've been in the media spotlight since Day
One."
The Cummings and Croslin arrests this week were part of a
month-long investigation by the Putnam Sheriff's Office, Florida
Department of Law Enforcement, a federal drug taskforce and the 7th
Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office, according to the release.
The
undercover Putnam County detective purchased $3,900 worth of drugs from
Croslin and Cummings, as well as Hank Thomas "Tommy" Croslin Jr., 23,
Hope A. Sykes, 18, and Donna Brock, deputy sheriffs said.
Hank Croslin and Sykes are from Satsuma. Brock is from Orlando. Her age was not immediately available.
Hank Croslin is Misty Croslin's brother, Greenwood said.
On
Wednesday, undercover investigators purchased what the deputy sheriffs
described as "trafficking amounts" of prescription drugs from Cummings
and Misty Croslin. They were taken into custody without incident.
Deputy sheriffs did not say whether they plan to interview the drug suspects in Haleigh's disappearance.
"Investigators
assigned to the Haleigh Cummings investigation will take every
available opportunity to speak with any individual believed to have
knowledge about Haleigh Cummings' disappearance," the release stated.
Misty
Croslin faces six counts of trafficking in prescription medication. She
is being held on $950,000 bail. Cummings is being held on $500,000 bail
for three counts of the same charge.
Hank Croslin, Sykes and Brock
face one count each of the trafficking charge. Hank Croslin's bail is
$100,000; Sykes is $150,000; Brock's is $250,000 bail.
Each
defendant had initial appearances this morning and their bail amounts
were kept the same, according to State Attorney's Office spokesman
Chris Kelly.
Ronald Cummings is held at the Flagler County Jail.
