Orlando, FL — In a surprise twist, just after the state's second witness left the stand, Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton told the court they did not have any more witnesses for the afternoon.
Court is recessed until 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Judge Belvin Perry also discussed the remaining schedule of the murder case against Casey Anthony.
“So far we are ahead of schedule,” Perry said.
The state is expected to finish its case Wednesday with the defense beginning as early as Thursday. Anthony is facing a first-degree murder charge and could face the death penalty.
Earlier Monday morning, Elizabeth Fontaine, testified Monday morning that she discovered a heart shape on one of the pieces of tape. Fontaine is a latent print expert for the FBI.
“An outline of a heart appeared on one of the corners of the edge” Fontaine said.
Stephen Shaw, a hair and fiber expert with the FBI, was the first witness to take the stand in Day 17 of the case against Casey.
He tested a hair from inside Casey’s trunk and testified that it showed signs of decomposition.
