GREENE, IA -- Iowa authorities have charged 39-year-old Thomas Petersen,
of Greene, with Murder in the First Degree in the stabbing death of his wife.



Judy Renee Petersen was found dead in the couple's home
shortly before 10pm on Saturday, June 4. Soon after, and AMBER Alert
was issued for her 2-year-old son, Jacob, who was missing. Law
enforcement believed Jacob was with Thomas, and suspected Thomas in Renee's death.

Thomas Petersen was tracked to South Dakota, and
stopped by authorities there around 8:20 Sunday morning. Authorities
say he fled during the pursuit, ramming two law enforcement vehicles.
Jacob was found unharmed. Thomas is currently being held in the Winner
City Jail in Tripp County, South Dakota, on charges related to the pursuit.

On June 5, the State Medical Examiner determined that
Renee Petersen died of multiple stab wounds. According to the Iowa
Department of Public Safety, officers investigating the murder found
knives consistent with Renee's wounds, as well as bloody clothing
belonging to Thomas. Authorities say the two had a history of conflict.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Butler County Sheriff's
Office, and Iowa Attorney General's Office are still investigating the events of June 4 and 5.
