Former prosecutor Jeff Ashton has advice for people still furious over Casey Anthony’s acquittal.

“Ignore her forever,” Ashton told WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich. “Don’t read any articles about her. Don’t read any books by her. Just pretend like she never existed.”

WFTV billed the chat as Ashton’s first and only local television interview since the verdict last week. Ashton has talked to various national media, including “Today” and “The View.” Ashton retired Friday.

Ashton wouldn’t comment on Belich’s comment that “some people have suggested these jurors are as dumb as a box of rocks or lazy.”

Anthony was acquitted last week of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

Anthony is scheduled to leave jail next Sunday, and WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer predicted that no one will be able to get close to her. ”I’ll be surprised if you’ll even be able to catch but a glimpse of her,” Sheaffer said.

But local stations have promised live coverage of her release.

Sheaffer predicted there will be no more charges in the case. “The system needs this case to be gone,” he said. “The jury has spoken. We have to move on now because the system needs to move forward and, quite frankly, so does the rest of the world.”

Defense attorney Jose Baez told Geraldo Rivera of Fox News Channel: “The defense team is going to take her some place safe. We plan on getting her mental health counseling and therapy. Remember, she has lost her child. She has been in solitary confinement. And for the last three years she has been facing the death penalty. After all of the trauma she has been facing, our goal is to get her well.”

Rivera, appearing on “The O’Reilly Factor,” added: “I doubt they’re going to keep her in Orange County. Maybe not even here in Central Florida because the animosity, that our audience nationwide and worldwide feels against this woman, is far more intense here.”
