GREENSBORO — Hli Nie told a judge earlier this month that ex-boyfriend Hoanh Rcom shot a wall and a pet — and threatened to kill her and himself.

“He has threatened to kill me and my minor children all the time,” Nie wrote in a July 7 application for a restraining order. It was granted.

On Thursday, police said, Rcom forced his way into 1501 Brandonshire Court, Apt. 303, where Nie lived, and shot five people, killing three of them, including their 6-year-old son Jason Rcom. Also killed were Joshua Samuel Prago, 43, and Hdingh Nie, age unknown.

One caller to 911 during the commotion said he heard 16 gunshots in a row.

Prago, who lived in a converted garage apartment at 3511 Dogwood Drive, was found shot to death in a closet in Hli Nie’s apartment. Hdingh Nie died during surgery.

Jason was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where he died.  He was a rising first-grader at Irving Park Elementary, said Nora Carr, chief of staff for Guilford County Schools.

Hli Nie was treated for a gunshot to her hand. An unidentified minor was treated for
an injury that was not considered life-threatening.

The restraining order Hli Nie took out lists another child who was born in 2000. The identity of the surviving minor is unclear.

Rcom, of 3205 Presley Way, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Officers discovered an assault rifle on a level below the third story apartment, which they believe was used in the crime.

Rcom has a first appearance  at 2 p.m. today. According to court records,  he  does not have a prior criminal  ecord. He is being held in the Guilford County Jail without bond.

Some details regarding the relationships among the victims  remained unclear late Thursday.

What is known is that shortly after midnight authorities received a 911 call to report a shooting with multiple  ictims at the apartment . The first responding officer arrived three minutes later and blocked the entrance to the complex.

Apartment complex resident Sherry Geldner said she was in bed when she heard two loud bangs coming from upstairs.

She then heard screaming, then gunshots.

Geldner laid low, confused by what was going on. She then saw a man in the parking lot ram a truck into the police car, momentarily trapping the officer in the car.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” she said. “I was scared to death. I’m still shaking.”

Greensboro police Chief Ken Miller said a witness ran to his apartment, retrieved a gun and used it to keep the suspect in place until the officer, identified as A.L. Dellinger in an arrest warrant, got out of his car on the passenger side.

Miller said the officer was slightly injured.

Police said 34-year-old Rcom, who was questioned Thursday by detectives, indicated he shot several people in Apartment 303.

Guilford District Attorney Doug Henderson said it is too early to say whether this is a death penalty case.

“More often than not when you have multiple homicides ... the state does seek the death penalty,” Henderson said. “That decision has not been made.”

According to the restraining order in which Hli Nie alleged constant harassment, Rcom could only have contact  ith her for child visitations.

Hli Nie noted that Rcom had a permit to purchase a handgun and a concealed handgun permit.

Hli Nie and Rcom once  co-owned a nail salon off Vandalia Road but it was later sold. Some information gathered from friends and official court documents conflict — such as whether the two were ever married. In the restraining order, Hli Nie calls Rcom an old boyfriend.

“Me and my ex-boyfriend been broke up for a while but he forced me to go back and stay with him and ... I can’t do that so that why he abused me and threaten me — beat me up badly,” she wrote. “I have proof of pictures.”

Rcom was prohibited from possessing or purchasing a firearm during the term of the protective order, which was in effect through July 15, 2012.

Hli Nie also checked “no” when asked if there was any reason a law enforcement officer should consider him a threat.

Tressie Harper, Prago’s friend and co-owner of the asphalt maintenance company where he was a sales associate, said Prago and Hli Nie had been dating for four months.

Prago, who had been on several international Christian mission trips and taught soccer to youth in Kenya, had tried to talk to Rcom after he allegedly assaulted Hli Nie in June. At the time, she was reluctant to take out a restraining order against Rcom because he was helping to watch the children, Harper said.

“He said, 'Man, you know you don’t want to not be able to see your kids,’” Harper recalled of what Prago told Rcom. “Josh thought he was just jealous, but not harmful. It took him coming to the shop and threatening her again.”

By then Hli Nie had moved into the apartment on Brandonshire Court and had tried  to keep the address from Rcom. Prago took  down his Facebook page because the couple  thought Rcom might pull information from there.

Prago, who had been taking Hli Nie and her children to church with him, recently took them on a vacation with his extended family.

“I said, 'Do you really love this girl?’ He  said, 'Yes, I love her,’” recalled Lindsay Cloer, a friend and co-worker of Prago’s who had seen pictures of a bruised Hli Nie. “I think he was in it for the long haul and (thinking) 'How can I punish her because of this baggage?’”

Kevin Harron, Prago’s soccer teammate at Grimsley and former roommate, said Josh was a funny, well-liked guy.

“He wanted to make life great. He knew it was a one-time deal and he wanted to make the most of it,” Harron said.

He was shocked to hear that his friend since fourth grade is gone.

“I’m 100 percent sure that this was a crime of passion that Josh just got stuck in the middle of.”

Father Charged With Killing Son, 2 Others At Greensboro Apartment

Montagnard Community Reacts To Triple Murder

Domestic Abuse Survivor Shares Her Story

Greensboro, NC -- The man charged with killing three people, including his six-year-old son, at a Greensboro apartment complex early Thursday morning, was under a restraining order.

Greensboro Police said two weeks ago, Hoanh Rcom was served with a 50-B protective order, prohibiting contact with Hli Wie, one of the people he is charged with injuring.

Corporal Brian Henderson is part of the Legal Process Division of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and is one of the people who handles restraining orders. He doesn't want people to be discouraged about taking out protective orders based on what happened Thursday. He said 99% of the time, the protective order does its job.

"It does work. It does offer you protection. It does document the battery, the assaults that are going on and you need to get out there and take that first step," said Henderson.

He said they get between three and 11 protective orders filed in their office every day.

"This is may be the second case in five years that I've seen any repercussions after being served," he said.

Henderson outlined the steps one would take in Guilford County to take out a restraining order against somebody.

First, you have to file paperwork at the clerk's office at the courthouse. Then you attend a court hearing upstairs (they are heard every day of the week in courtroom 2B at 2pm). That's where you present your case to the judge who will review it and decide whether to grant or deny your request. If your request is granted, head back down to the clerk's office to get a packet of paperwork that you take across the street to the Law Enforcement Center.

That's where you'll meet with someone in the Sheriff's Office Family Services Unit for an interview about your situation. After that you're free to leave, on your own, as you wait for confirmation the protective order has been served.

Henderson said their goal is to serve it the same day. The entire process can take you several hours and there is no cost.

There will be a court date set within ten days of someone being served with a protective order. Henderson said it's at that time a judge will decide whether to dismiss it or keep it in place for another year.

Man Could Face Death Penalty on Charges of Killing Son, Two Others

8:25 p.m. EDT, July 22, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP)—

A man charged with killing three people, including his 6-year-old son, on Thursday was told by a judge that he could face the death penalty if convicted.

Hoanh Rcom, 34, of 3205 Presley Way, will face either the death penalty or life without parole on three counts of first-degree murder, a judge told him Friday.

Rcom, who appeared emotional and spoke through an interpreter during the 15-minute court session, told the judge he wanted to represent himself in the trial. However, the judge appointed a lawyer for him anyway because of the seriousness of his charges.

His next court appearance was scheduled for August 16.

Rcom is in the Guilford County Jail without bond. The district attorney's office said Rcom has been combative and crying while in jail.

Greensboro Police said Rcom confessed to shooting five people with an assault rifle at the Brandonshire Apartments off Wendover Avenue just after midnight Thursday.

The victims include the two people who lived in the apartment. Hoanh's son, Jason Rcom, 6, died after he was taken to Moses Cone Hospital.

Hoanh's ex-girlfriend and Jason's mother, Hli Wie, 29, was shot in the hand. Wie, who also goes by Holly, was treated at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, police said.

Three others in the apartment were also shot. Wie's new boyfriend, Joshua Samuel Prago, 43, of 3511 Dogwood Drive, was found dead in an upper-floor closet.

Hdingh Nie, of 3104K Summit Ave., died at Moses Cone Hospital. A 12-year-old, who family identified as Nie's niece, was treated for a non life-threatening gunshot wound in the arm, police said.

The Nie's were friends of the family, police said.

Melinda Pulida, one of Prago's close friends, said Prago had been dating Wie for four months.

"It seemed it was the happiest he'd been in about 15 years. He developed a life toward Christ and focused on his career and helping others. He met Holly and didn't wipe a smile off his face," Pulida said.

Pulida said Prago helped Wie file a protective order against Rcom two weeks before the shooting. It said, "He has threatened to kill me and my minor children all the time. If I don't go back to him, that's what he's gonna do to me."

The protective order kept Rcom from having quick access to guns, like in his house or car, but it didn't make him hand his guns over to deputies when they served the order.

Rcom got a gun permit in 2008 because he did not have a criminal record.

Pulida said that, besides fearing for Wie's safety, Prago was concerned for his own safety as Rcom also threatened him.

"He had to delete his Facebook page in order to avoid the threats and whatnot. He was trying to be strong for Holly, and we were all trying to be there for him," Pulida said.

Pulida said Prago also tried to keep Wie's new address a secret.

Rcom's neighbor, Maria Grant, said she noticed Rcom was acting strange just before the shooting.

"Every time you saw him he was smiling, except Monday. He was just different. He wasn't the friendly person that he normally is," Grant said.

Reflecting, Grant said she realized that Rcom knew exactly what he was getting ready to do.

"It was already made up in his mind that he was going to kill all of them. I'm just surprised he did not kill himself," Grant said.

Rcom also faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for shooting the two surviving victims, as well as one count of felony assault on an officer for ramming his pickup truck into a patrol car while trying to flee the scene.

New Details Emerge In Triple-Slaying Investigation

Police Had Confiscated Guns On 2 Occasions

POSTED: 4:33 pm EDT July 25, 2011
UPDATED: 4:54 pm EDT July 25, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- New details were
released Monday in the investigation into four men accused in the
shooting deaths of two adults and a child and the wounding of two
others.Hoanh Rcom, Fnu Angu, Ayun Y and Polly Rcom are all
charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Hoanh Rcom's
6-year-old son, Jason Rcom, and two others, Hdingh Nie, 23; and Joshua
Samuel Prag, 43.Another victim, 29-year-old Hli Wie, was treated
for a gunshot wound to her hand. A 12-year-old girl who hasn't been
identified was also treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.Police said Wie is Hoanh Rcom's ex-girlfriend and was the shooter.

On Monday police said Wie and several of the others were at a movie theater the night of the shooting."When
they were at that theater, Nie received communication from Hoanh Rcom
and she took that to be a threat," Lt. Dennis Willoughby said during a
news conference.

Willoughby said Nie didn't report the threat to
police and returned with the group to the apartment off Wendover Avenue.
The shooting happened shortly afterward, according to police.

Police also revealed on Monday that officers responded to two domestic calls
involving Hoanh Rcom and Nie. The first was on June 30.

During that exchange, an officer confiscated a gun.

"Officers responded and asked if he had weapons. He said, 'Yes, I do' and
complied. And officers actually seized that weapon because it was a
domestic-dispute situation," Willoughby said.During a second call on July 2, officers confiscated two more handguns, police said.

As for the other suspects, police wouldn't say how they are connected to the shooter, but that they were at the scene.

"They did go to that location with Hoanh, and their intent was to commit a
violent assault on the victims, and a weapon was used and that is
first-degree murder," Willoughby said

All four suspects are being held without bail at the Guilford County Jail.
