JONATHAN JAMES - 10 yo - Dallas TX

Dallas homicide detectives are investigating the possibly heat-related death of a 10-year-old Red Bird boy this morning.


Paramedics found Jonathan James unresponsive about 11 p.m.
Monday at a home in the 5500 block of Elm Leaf Court, near Red Bird Lane
and Duncanville Road.


He was taken to Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.


Child abuse detectives were initially called to the scene, but the homicide unit was later dispatched because of Jonathan's age.


No arrests had been made this morning.

Homicide detectives are investigating the Monday night death of a
10-year-old boy whose parent told hospital officials that he passed out
at their Dallas home.
Authorities are calling the case an "unexplained death."
The boy, who was not identified, died shortly after 11 p.m. Monday at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
One of the boy's parents and a witness told Dallas police that the boy
passed out at their home in the 5500 block of Elm Leaf Court in Dallas.
The boy was taken to the hospital where he died.
The parents told Dallas police that the boy had been sick since Sunday and
that their home did not have central air conditioning. Two small
air-conditioning window units and fans were not cooling down the house,
the parents told police.
The mother told police that her son was "very hot" and that she tried to cool him down by placing him in a bathtub.
When his condition got worse, his parents called 911.
According to a Dallas police report, authorities had alerted child abuse
investigators, but homicide detectives were on the scene.
Detectives are awaiting an autopsy on the boy which is scheduled for Tuesday to determine what may have caused the boy's death.
Officials with Child Protective Services have placed two other children in the home with relatives.

"He hadn't been eating, he hadn't been sleeping," said Pughes. "Some of the same symptoms you would encounter if it was heat exhaustion, but it could also be some other underlying illness or undiagnosed problem."...
