AHZYRE THOMPSON - 4 Weeks - South Middletown (E Harrisburg) PA
SOUTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police in Carlisle are investigating the death of a South Middleton Township infant. The 4-week-old child, Ahzyre Thompson, was taken by ambulance to
Carlisle Regional Hospital on Thursday morning, where she was pronounced
dead. Her father, Justin Thompson, and a 6-year-old girl were the
only people in the home at the time, according to court documents.
Around 7:20 a.m., Thompson called 911 to report that the baby was not
breathing. He told police the infant woke up crying at 3 a.m. and
he gave her milk and she went back to sleep, according to court
documents. When the 6-year-old girl living in the house woke up
and needed help getting dressed, Thompson said he realized the infant
wasn't breathing, according to court documents.EMS workers performed CPR on the girl. The
Cumberland County coroner concluded that the retinal tears and
contusions on the infant's face and eyes were from a traumatic injury
and not naturally occurring."It's reasonable to believe (the infant) is indeed the victim of an intentional act rather an accident," Todd Eckenrode said.Police
said they found blood on bed sheets in the master bedroom. They seized
an infant bassinet, a swing and stroller from the house.Investigators said it is unknown if the infant's injuries were a result of being struck or a fall.An autopsy has been performed, but the cause and manner of death have not been determined yet.No charges have been filed in this case.
