1-year-old found unresponsive in bathtub

A
toddler discovered unresponsive this morning in a bathtub at an east
Orange County home remains in an unknown condition at local hospital,
according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

A 911 dispatcher provided
life-saving instructions to an unidentified caller in the home after
the 1-year-old was found at about 10 a.m.


Firefighter-paramedics
took over cardiopulmonary resuscitation as soon as they reached the
home and then provided additional medical treatment as the child was
taken to an area hospital.

This year, 11 children have died from
drowning in Orange County, including 10 who were 3 years old or younger,
according to the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner's Office.

"Sadly,
this type of accident is all too common. It is imperative for parents
and caregivers to remember to supervise children at all time near
water," Fire Rescue said in a statement. "The Safe Kids Coalition
recommends caregivers always stay within an arm's reach of your child
when he or she is in or near the bathtub, toilet, pools, spas or
buckets."

Drowning is the second leading cause of death after vehicle crashes for children under 15, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control.
In 2007, about 4,000 people died from drowning in the U.S. and children
represented about one of every five victims. For every child who dies,
four more require medical care for near-drowning injuries that can cause
permanent brain damage.

Without a suspect and/or charges of abuse or cruelty this story will be moved to Unresolved for the time being.

I almost put it there but decided a baby alone in a tub was abuse. I think she died but can't confirm.

I totally agree with you my pedicured angel, however we must not find ourselves accused of presumptional reporting. I am sure we'll be moving this soon.
