RAQUEL MENCHACA - 15 yo - Stockton CA

San Jose police said Wednesday they are seeking help locating a 15-year-old girl who may be held against her will by the 19-year-old boyfriend she last was seen with earlier this month.



Raquel Menchaca last was seen by her mother Jan. 5 getting into a car around 4:30 p.m. with boyfriend Leonel Vargas of Stockton at Oak Grove High School in South San Jose. They had argued shortly before and the mother called police, when officers arrived the two were gone, Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

Menchaca's father tracked the two down later that night in San Jose and confronted them. But police said Vargas ran over her father's foot as he drove away with her. Her father was not seriously hurt. The girl's parents reported her missing the following day after she failed to return home.

Police sent investigators to the home and later determined Menchaca and Vargas had spent the weekend in Ukiah, where at least one of them has friends.

"After several interviews with the victim's family," Dwyer said, "detectives are now exploring the possibility that Raquel Menchaca is being held against her will."

Police are seeking Vargas on a $250,000 arrest warrant alleging kidnapping of the girl and assault with a deadly weapon on charges he ran over Menchaca's father's foot. They believe he and Menchaca may be in either Ukiah, Stockton or Madera.

"It's not uncommon for teens to go off for a couple of days with a boyfriend or girlfriend," Dwyer said. "But
we can't operate under that assumption. She's not been in contact with her parents, and that's not usual. They're just really worried and at this point we're treating it as a kidnapping."


Police described Vargas' car as a gold, 2-door, Toyota Solara with a license plate 5HBX454.
