CHRISTOPHER SCOTT CHILDERS Jr - 5 Months - Raleigh NC
RALEIGH, N.C. --
A 5-month-old remains in the hospital after he was shaken by a
Wake County man. The infant's mother said baby Christopher has severe
brain damage.
Authorities have charged Christopher Childers, 28, with felony child abuse.
"I could not believe he did this to my son, who would hurt a child,
it doesn't make sense, sorry I'm about to cry," said Rachel Collins, the
baby's mother.
Collin's son Christopher was taken to WakeMed. Collins said she was going to marry Childers and thought he was a good father.
A woman, who did not want to be identified, said she knew the couple
and said she saw the abuse. The woman admits she called child protective
services and said they should have done more.
“This was not the first time, there have been more incidents like
this that were not reported, like punching, shaking, yelling, you know
babies can't understand that,” said the woman.
Wake County Human Services said they cannot comment on specific cases.
Collins admitted that Childers has hit her in the past, and she said she wishes she got out of the relationship before now.
“He has hit me in my arm and in my back,” she said.
In court, prosecutors told the judge Childers admitted to shaking the baby before.
Childers is in the Wake County jail under a $50,000 bond. If convicted he could face up to seven years in prison.

OMG...another mother waiting too long and knowing about the abuse until it's too late. Poor sweet baby is now damaged by his POS baby and ignorant mother. She should be charged with neglect and not reporting the abuse.

Shaken Raleigh infant dies; father faces murder charge
Raleigh, N.C. — A 6-month-old boy who suffered severe brain damage after
being violently shaken two weeks ago has died, police said Monday.
Child abuse charges against his father have been upgraded to murder.
Christopher
Scott Childers Jr., 5 months old at the time, was injured in the early
morning hours of Jan. 21 and transported to WakeMed, where he died
Sunday. His father, 28-year-old Christopher Scott Childers, of 216-B E.
Lenoir St., was originally charged with intentional child abuse.
He
was being held in the Wake County jail under a $50,000 bond Monday. A
warrant charging him with murder had been served, but a judge had not
yet considered whether to raise his bond. He is scheduled to make his
first appearance for the murder charge Tuesday at 2 p.m. He will also be
in court Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. for the child abuse charge.
In a 911
call, a woman identifying herself as the child's mother said she and
her husband woke up and discovered the boy wasn't breathing.
"He's not awake. He's not responsive. Oh God, please help me," the woman said.
The infant lived in a downtown Raleigh apartment with his mother,
Childers and another adult. That roommate, who did not want to be
identified, said he never saw Childers lose his temper.
A downstairs neighbor, however, said she frequently heard banging and yelling coming from the apartment.

So sad. The father looks like a drug addict. I wonder if the mother will be charged as it sounds like she knew about the abuse especially if neighbors could hear it. Poor baby.

babies may not b able to talk but a mother can see changes in the baby's behavior. i just dont understand how any woman's "needs" outweigh the health and well being of her child.

She most likely witnessed this POS abusing her baby. Most men who do this don't only do it when the mother is not present.

Re: CHRISTOPHER SCOTT CHILDERS Jr - 5 Months - Raleigh NC
RALEIGH -- Wake County Department of Social Services released its case report on Christopher Childers, Jr. Monday, stating that the baby, who was allegedly injured by his father and later died, once lived in filthy conditions.
However, the report did not indicate the child had been physically abused.
The 6-month-old died Feb. 5 in Raleigh at WakeMed.
On Jan. 21,paramedics were called to the Raleigh home he shared with his father, 28-year-old Christopher Childers, Sr.
Police said Childers shook the baby so hard that he caused brain damage. Police arrested Childers the same day and charged him with intentional child abuse.
The boy clung to life for two weeks before succumbing to his injuries. Childers' charges were upgraded to murder.
Child Protective Services first visited the child and his parents last August after receiving a report of possible neglect.
The report stated the baby was not being properly bathed, and that his bed was filled with bugs and roaches.
However by late September, CPS had determined the situation improved enough for the agency to hand over the case to other social services programs. Childers is currently being held at the Wake County Jail.
