LAKE RIDGE, Va. --
A Westridge man was charged with felony child abuse Wednesday
after police said he shook his infant daughter, leaving her severely
injured earlier this year.
Police said that Shahid Nazar shook his 3-month-old infant girl “so
hard that it caused severe head and upper body trauma” on Jan. 10 and
Feb. 23 at a home on the 3900 block of Penshurst Lane in Westridge,
Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
Medical staff examining the girl called police on March 2 after
suspecting the child’s injuries were a result of shaken baby syndrome,
officers said.
Officers began their investigation the same day, and then charged him on Wednesday, Perok said.
Nazar, 30, of the 3900 block of Penshurst Lane, was charged with two
counts of malicious wounding and two counts of felony child abuse, Perok
said.
He was held without bond.
His court date was unavailable.
The baby girl is currently with family members at her home, police said.
