A 31-year-old woman remains in a Genesee County jail accused of killing her 6-year-old daughter.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says
April Foster, of Detroit, is facing charges of second-degree child abuse
and negligent homicide.

The young girl died Wednesday night after
being rushed to a hospital in Flint where she was found with multiple
wounds on her extremities.

Leyton said the girl had bruises, cuts and sores all over her body -- both arms may have also been broken.

Reports say the prosecutor's office filed an
emergency order with family court to remove the woman's other child, a
9-year-old girl, from a Flint home.

Foster was arraigned over the weekend and remains in police custody on $50,000 bond.

The mother of a 6-year-old girl who court records say had burns,

The Genesee County prosecutor's office says 31-year-old April Foster
of Detroit was arraigned Sunday on the charge, a felony punishable by up
to four years in prison. She's scheduled for a pre-trial Tuesday in
District Court in Flint. WJRT-TV reports Foster was jailed pending the
hearing.

Defense lawyer Michael Ewing says he's only just met with Foster and
says she's kind and polite, despite the seriousness of the allegations.

Records show Avril Johnson was pronounced dead Wednesday at McLaren Medical Center.

Foster was visiting a friend in Flint last week. It's unclear where Avril was injured

You're right! I just noticed that the category says resulting in death so how could she only get 4 years. I hope that's an error otherwise MI child abuse laws need overhauling.

ALL child abuse laws need overhauling!!! it's "UP TO" 4 years.... IF she's given the max, very unlikely she will serve close to that, given our stupid "justice" system

So_cal... this is a travesty. That child was tortured and murdered and the perp may only get up to 4 years. I agree. There is something wrong with our judicial system. Why is a child's life so worthless?

Flint District Court case delayed against April Foster, mother of 6-year-old who died

FLINT, Michigan -- The criminal case against a Detroit woman who was charged after her daughter arrived at an area hospital with multiple injuries and eventually died has been delayed.


April Foster

April Foster, 31, is charged with second-degree child abuse after her daughter died March 7. The girl had bruises, cuts, burns and two possible broken arms, according to court records.

Court records show Foster was scheduled for a preliminary exam today in Flint District Court, but that was removed from the court docket.

Foster's attorney, Kenneth Scott, said he had no comment on the case. Scott was in Genesee Circuit Court today for a murder trial, but it is unclear if his involvement in that trial delayed Foster's case.

Foster was released on bail on Saturday, according to court records. The records show that she was released on a tether with the ability to go to work, school and her daughter's viewing and funeral.

Court records show that she was released from the tether today.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Foster's case Friday morning.
