"Newborn John" PACE - 2 Months - Scottsbluff/ Omaha NE
A Scottsbluff man faces trial in Scotts Bluff County District Court after being accused of seriously injuring his infant son.
Nathan
Pace, 34, of Scottsbluff, appeared in Scotts Bluff County District
Court for a preliminary hearing on a charge of intentionally committing
child abuse resulting in serious injury, a Class II felony. Judge James
Worden determined that probable cause existed in Pace’s case, and Pace
will appear for arraignment in district court Friday.
Pace is
accused of injuring his 2-month-old son Feb. 16. The boy had been
treated at Regional West Medical Center after being transported to the
hospital. According to an arrest affidavit, doctors determined that the
infant suffered bleeding on the brain and a fractured clavicle. The boy
was flown to Denver Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
Doctors
told investigators that the boy had new and old injuries, consistent
with having been injured on the day of and within two weeks of his
hospitalization, court documents said. A Denver Children’s Hospital
doctor told police that the infant’s injuries were not accidental and
he suffered traumatic brain injury.
Pace has denied having intentionally harmed the child.
He is being held in the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond.
