ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony has officially been served a subpoena in the Zenaida Gonzalez civil case.
Gonzalez's attorney Matt Morgan announced on Twitter Thursday that Anthony had officially been served the subpoena to appear in court for the civil trial against her.
On Tuesday we confirmed that Cheney Mason, one of Anthony's criminal attorneys, would accept the subpoena on her behalf and give it to her himself, so that her location would remain a secret.
Casey has been in hiding since she was released from jail in July 2011. However, Judge Lisa Munyon ruled earlier in May that attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez could subpoena Casey to court.
“We had retired federal agents on this. We had a team, that was a very impressive team, that had scoured the state of Florida and we were on her scent,” Morgan said on Tuesday.
Gonzalez is suing for defamation, claiming her life was ruined was Casey told investigators looking for her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, that a nanny with the same name kidnapped her.
It was later revealed during Casey's murder trial that she knew her daughter was dead the entire time, though her lawyers claimed Caylee drowned. Casey was ultimately acquitted of first-degree murder.
The civil trial is expected to start January 2, 2013.
