GRETA TIM - 14 yo (2008) - Irvington/ Parsippany NJ
Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi, Esq., has announced the identification of a
victim in connection with the discovery of human remains found about
two months ago in Parsippany
On April 12 at approximately 12:52 p.m., Parsippany Police, along with the Morris County
Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Missing Persons Unit, Morris
County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section and the Morris
County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to a report that the remains
of human bones were found in a bag on Sylvan Way. Landscape workers
cleaning debris from the property along the side of the road made the discovery.
A New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropologist provided
investigators with critical data related to the possible age, sex and
ethnicity of the victim. An extensive investigation focusing on prior
missing person files commenced. Subsequently, an individual that
investigators believed to fit the profile was developed.
Based on that data, a forensic odontologist compared the
known dental records of the suspected victim against the teeth that were
recovered at the scene.
Through an exhaustive investigative process, the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Greta Tim, who would have been 18 years old.
Tim was reported missing on Aug. 1, 2008, by her mother. She
was living in Irvington and was 14 years old at the time. She was last seen on July 27, 2008.
Bianchi's office notified the family.
"We have met with the family of Greta Tim and expressed our condolences," said Bianchi in a statement.
For Bianchi, whose term is up on June 22, the identification
of the victim was one of many successful cases handled during his term.
He stated, "I'm proud of the joint investigation that this office, Parsippany Police, the Morris County
Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section, Morris County Medical
Examiner’s Office, New Jersey State Police anthropologist and Forensic
Ondontologist conducted on this case. As a result of the cooperative
efforts, we were able to quickly identify the victim and we continue to
pursue many solid leads with this investigation."
Bianchi confirmed that Tim’s death was a homicide, and said the events surrounding the death remain under investigation.
Anyone with information about Greta Tim should call the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200 or the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stopper Program at 973-COPCALL.
