DANIEL CHRISTENSEN-13 yo-Great Falls MT
09/26/2012
On Tuesday evening, the parents of Daniel Christensen perhaps felt
for the first time they could breathe a sigh of relief. After a tip was
called in to the Seattle Police Department, it appeared it was only a
matter of time before their son was safe at home again. But it was another false alarm.
“They’re
not positive (it was Daniel),” his father, Ken Newell, a truck driver
who lives just outside Great Falls, said Wednesday. “So we’re waiting to
hear.”
Daniel
left the house where he lived with his father and stepmother, Ken and
Roz Newell, on Monday, Sept. 17, at about 8:30 a.m., and he hasn’t been
seen since.
The 13-year-old had threatened to run away a few weeks prior, Newell said, but he didn’t think his son was serious.
Since then, the Newells and Daniel’s mother, Heidi Christensen, who
lives in Utah, have been sending out a barrage of posters with Daniel’s
photo and information about his disappearance. There
have been tips. On Sept. 17, someone spotted a boy matching Daniel’s
description at a Missoula Walmart. He was with a man in his late-40s or
early 50s, with gray hair and a long gray beard.
“We’re not sure if it was Daniel, but the person described him and his clothing to a ‘T,’” Newell said.
Then
on Sunday, Sept. 23, the Newells got a phone call from a blocked
number. The caller, an older man, said, “Your son is dead,” before
hanging up.
That incident, Newell said, made the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office
take notice. Up until then, Newell said CCSO “pretty much ignored” their
report of Daniel’s disappearance. According to Newell, Daniel was
classified as a runaway, not a missing child.Phone calls made to CCSO on Tuesday and Wednesday were not returned.
Newell
said after they received the phone call Sunday, he gave CCSO permission
to trace the call. The number was connected with a 19-year-old man
living in North Dakota, but who had moved from Great Falls a few months
ago.
According to
Newell, a CCSO investigator called the man and “drilled him pretty
hard,” and even spoke to the man’s mother, who told the investigator she
had the phone in her possession at the time of the phone call.
Newell said the investigator told him he would look into the call further.
Newell
admits he doesn’t know where Daniel may have been headed. Daniel
doesn’t know many people in Montana, having come to live in Great Falls
recently. Newell’s mother lives on the Hi-Line, but he doubts Daniel
would head in that direction. He may try to go back to Utah.
“But we caught wind that he knew somebody over in Seattle-Tacoma area, and he might try to head that way,” he said. The
Newells sent posters in that direction, too. On Tuesday evening, they
received word from CCSO that someone had called their office from
Seattle to say a boy matching Daniel’s description was in that city.
As of Wednesday, Newell said Seattle PD has issued a “pickup order” for boys matching Daniel’s description.
“We’re not positive. (We’re) still looking and hoping, praying it is him who is there,” Newell said.

Fate of missing teen worries Layton mother
09/24/2012
LAYTON — Heidi Christensen hopes her 13-year-old son will walk through her door soon.
Right now, the Layton woman has no idea where Daniel Christensen is.
Daniel had been living with his father and stepmother, Ken and Roz Newell, just outside of Great Falls, Mont., since April.
On Sept. 17, Daniel, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 110
pounds, packed two backpacks, put on a blue hoodie with white stripes
and a new pair of black-and-red FuBu shoes and headed out the door, Ken
Newell said.
Christensen said she sent Daniel to live with his father in April. He
had lived with his mother for 10 years in the Layton/Syracuse area
until he moved in with his father.
Both Christensen and Ken Newell said Daniel has never run away before.
“He was into a lot of trouble here, so I thought it would be best for
(Daniel) to go live there for the school year,” Christensen said. “But I
have this gut-wrenching, sad feeling inside.”
Christensen said her son is smart and resourceful. Daniel knows he has family members who live between Great Falls and Layton.
“But he has not contacted anyone,” Christensen said. “I’m afraid (the police) are going to find him in a shallow grave.”
Daniel’s father, Ken Newell, is a truck driver who left on Sept. 16 for a four-day trip.
On the day Daniel left his home, Roz Newell was at a doctor’s visit. She left Daniel in the care of a friend, Ken Newell said.
Roz Newell realized as soon as she got home from the doctor’s office
that Daniel was missing. That is when she and Ken called the Cascade
County Sheriff’s Office.
“They just don’t seem too concerned about it,” Ken Newell said.
Calls to the Cascade Sheriff’s Office were not returned on Monday.
Ken Newell said the sheriff’s office has listed his son as a runaway and not as a missing child.
The couple, along with friends and family members, have posted fliers at most truck stops in Montana, Idaho and now in Utah.
They have also posted information on Facebook.
Newell received a phone call from a woman who said she saw a boy
matching Daniel’s description at a Walmart in Missoula, Mont., on Sept.
17, with a man in his late 40s or 50s, who had long gray hair and a long
gray beard.
“That is 170 miles to the west of us,” Newell said.
Another person contacted the Newells to say a boy was with an older man in Bonner, Mont., on Sept. 19.
However, a phone call Newell received at 9:30 p.m. Sunday has him and Christensen frantic.
“It came up as a private number and I answered it,” Newell said.
“Then, there was a delay connection and this man’s voice. He said, ‘Your
son is dead.’ ”
Newell contacted the sheriff’s office and his cellphone carrier. So far, there are no leads on who made that phone call.
“I can’t function,” Newell said. “I need to find my son.”
Anyone with information about Daniel can call Ken Newell at 806-395-0979
or 406-231-2766, or the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office at
406-454-6846.

I just can't find anything on this boy after September.
There are some interesting thoughts about this from around the web though. Wouldn't ya think somebody, somewhere would be searching? He is still listed though on NCME. Hmmm.

Story Updated: Jan 15, 2013 at 11:02 PM MST
A thirteen year old who was reported as having runaway back in September was found this evening.
Daniel Christensen was found after having been missing for four months. According to the Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards, Christensen was found at a residence on Chowen Springs Loop (formerly known as Parkdale) in Great Falls where another woman was living. He was found to be safe and ok.
The woman who was living at the residence is at this time being charged with endangering the welfare of a minor through aiding a runaway. The woman's name at this time has not been released and the investigation is still ongoing.

[i]So thankful he has been found! It is just horrible that this woman didn't at least make a call from a disposable phone to let his stricken family know he was okay,

Van Delden charged with custodial interference in Christensen case
The Cascade County Sheriff's Office has released more information regarding the investigation into former runaway Daniel Christensen.
Christensen, the Great Falls teenager who was reported as a runaway on September 17, 2012, was found safe on Tuesday at a home on Chowen Springs Loop in Great Falls.
He was found hiding underneath a bunk bed in a second floor bedroom of the residence.
Jenna Van Delden, the occupant of the residence, was arrested and has been charged with custodial interference, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Charging documents state that Sheriff's deputies interviewed Van Delden on October 5, 2012; during the interview, Van Delden denied any knowledge of the teen's whereabouts and stated that she had not had any recent contact with him.
The documents state that officers entered Van Delden's residence on other occasions following the initial interview after receiving information that she was "hiding the child from his father and from law enforcement officers." The teen was not found during any of those visits.
On January 14, 2013, law enforcement received word that Christensen had been seen at Van Delden's home earlier in the day, and that he had been living there since he ran away from home.
A search warrant was granted on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, and officers went to the home, where Van Delden again denied having any knowledge of Christensen's whereabouts and stated that he was not inside of her house.
When a deputy searched the home, he found Christensen hiding underneath a bunk bed in a second-floor bedroom.
Christensen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with obstructing a peace officer.
The Sheriff's Office is working with the Cascade County Attorney's Office and the Department of Family Services in the investigation.
The Sheriff's Office says that at no time during the investigation have they determined that Christensen was abducted or removed under duress from his parents, and that he is considered to be a recovered runaway.
