Theresa Riggi, child murderer, found dead in British hospital

An American woman who shocked the people of Scotland when she murdered her three small children was found dead in a British hospital Monday. -

Theresa Riggi, 49, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after she stabbed her three children — Austin and Gianluca, both 8 years old, and Cecilia, 5 years old — to death in Edinburgh after a divorce in August 2010.

The bodies of the children were found in one room of a three-story home after emergency crews were called to investigate a smell of gas and the sound of an explosion.

Her husband, Pasquale Riggi, grew up in Lakewood and lives there now.

Pasquale Riggi declined to comment on Theresa Riggi's death.

The British Broadcasting Corporation reported that she was found dead at Rampton Secure Hospital in Nottinghamshire, England.
Nottinghamshire police confirmed the death and said it was "non-suspicious."

Theresa Riggi, who was initially charged with murder, admitted to three counts of the lesser charge of culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility, according to the BBC.
