Child dies after being left in hot car in Phoenix church parking lot

PHOENIX - A 3-year-old boy has died after being left in a car by a family friend over the weekend.
According to Phoenix Police, the victim was found in a car at Abundant Life Church near 20th Street and Roeser Road around 2 p.m. Saturday.
Police say Hayden Nelson had been left in the car for around three hours.
Police initially said Nelso was 3 months old, however, later corrected the child's age to 3 years old.
The baby's mother arrived at the church early Saturday morning for choir practice, leaving the child with a family friend, a 27-year-old woman who is now a suspect in the case.
The suspect arrived at the church around 11 a.m. She was reportedly running late, but her and two other children exited the car and went inside.
After choir practice, the mother and friend realized the child could not be found and searched the church and parking lot.
The suspect checked the car and found the boy inside in "medical distress," police say.
It was approximately 95 to 97 degrees outside on Saturday.
Nelson reportedly died Sunday afternoon.
Charges have not yet been determined.
