SAN ANTONIO - The body of a baby was discovered Monday morning at Interstate 37 and Drexel at the Interstate 10 interchange, San Antonio police said.

Body was found inside luggage by main­tenance worker

SAN ANTONIO - The body of a baby was discovered Monday morning at Interstate 37 and Drexel at the Interstate 10 interchange, San Antonio police said.

Sgt. Javier Salazar said a maintenance worker cutting grass near a guardrail discovered the baby in a small piece of luggage among some weeds in the median near the exit from I-37 to Interstate 10 West.

Salazar described the luggage as about the size of a gym bag or purse.

He said the worker immediately called police. Both homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are looking into the baby's death.

"Trace evidence is going to be crucial in trying to identify who this child is and who the parents are," Salazar said.

He said investigators will also be calling on the public to help identify the infant and its parents.

"Was someone pregnant recently and then all of a sudden didn't have a baby any more?" he said.
