When Detroit police responded to a 911 call from a home on Detroit's
east side, they found 3-year-old Marquis Wisdom unresponsive with
bruises covering his face.
The family told Fox 2 that Marquis choked on noodles before going into a seizure, but police told Local 4 they suspect child abuse.
The toddler was at home with his mother's boyfriend while she was at work.
The boyfriend has not yet been charged, but police said yesterday they took a "family friend" into custody.

A 24-year-old Detroit man and his girlfriend face charges in the beating death of her 3-year-old son after the child wet his pants.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office and Detroit police say warrants have been issued charging Demetric McTavish Craig with felony murder, first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse and as a habitual offender.

Police say Craig is on probation for a 2008 extortion conviction.

A warrant also has been issued charging 24-year-old Eugenia Wilson with involuntary manslaughter. Court records did not indicate when Craig and Wilson would be arraigned, or if either had attorneys.

Police say Craig was not the biological father of the child. The boy died Sunday at Wilson's east side home.

Marquis Wisdom's brief life was a horrific cycle of beatings and other abuse, police said. The
3-year-old allegedly was beaten to death Sunday by his mother's
boyfriend, who became enraged after the boy wet his pants,
investigators said. But police say that wasn't the first beating Marquis endured.
Demetric Craig, 24, has been charged with
first-degree murder in connection with the boy's Sunday beating death.
Craig also was charged as a habitual offender. Craig was on probation
for a 2008 extortion conviction. The boy's mother, Eugenia
Wisdom, 24, has turned herself in to police and was charged with
involuntary manslaughter, because she allegedly failed to report other
instances of her son being abused, said Maria Miller, spokeswoman for
the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. "There's the allegation
that the mother was grossly negligent, and that she failed to care for
her child and prevent ongoing abuse," Miller said. Craig cared
for the boy while his mother was at work. Police received a 911 call

officers arrived, they found Marquis' body and face covered with
bruises. He was taken to Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced
dead.

The child's paternal grandmother, Annie Manning, said there might have been warning signs.
"They would never want to go home. And they would cry, but you didn't exactly know what was going on,” Manning said. “They would say, 'I don't want to go home, I want to stay with you Grandma.’”

The mother of a 3-year-old Detroit boy beaten to death after wetting his pants has been arraigned on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.Eugenia Wisdom faces a Sept. 3 preliminary examination.
Attorney Antonio Tuddles entered a not guilty plea for the 24-year-old Wisdom at Friday's arraignment in 36th District Court in Detroit.Her 24-year-old boyfriend Demetric McTavish Craig was arraigned Wednesday on felony murder, second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges. His preliminary examination also is set for Sept. 3.Authorities say Marquise Wisdom died of blunt force trauma Sunday at his east side home.
