"Infant" ALVAREZ - 13 months - West Valley City UT

Police in West Valley City say a man beat a 13-month-old boy and left him alone in a basement.

According
to a probable cause statement, the boy was found by his grandmother
alone in the basement with contusions, severe bruises all over his body
and a broken leg. The statement also says the grandmother found the boy
lying on the basement floor.

The grandmother took the boy into
Pioneer Valley Hospital, where police were called in after emergency
workers suspected the boy had been beaten.

The statement also
says the child was left in the care of his father 24-year-old Humberto
Alvarez, who later admitted to hitting the boy with a laundry basket.
He later confessed to striking the boy repeatedly with a shoe.
Alvarez was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

The statement says the child was with the father for a week while the rest of the family went out of town.
