Left leg discovered (Male) - Feather River CA
Sutter County
sheriff's deputies are investigating the grim discovery of severed leg
near a popular Feather River destination known as "Beer Can Beach."
The discovery of the left leg from unknown man Sunday set off a
homicide investigation and an intensive search of the river area for
more clues.
"We're treating this as a homicide until we learn otherwise," said
Brenda Baker, sheriff's spokeswoman. "We've had a ground search. We've
had a cadaver dog out. We've had a boat patrol out."
Authorities also were checking missing person reports from around the region to see if there is a possible match.
The area search was suspended late Monday afternoon with the mystery still unanswered.
Sacramento police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said a car found about two miles away in Sutter County was registered to an adult male from Sacramento who was reported missing two days ago.
Baker said the leg was believed to have been at the location for
less than a week. But she said authorities couldn't confirm if the
presence of the vehicle had anything to do with the discovery.
The leg was found by citizens shortly after noon at the base of a levy by the beach off of Garden Highway and Lee Road.
People with information that may help in the investigation are being
asked to call Sutter sheriff's detectives at (530) 822-7307. Tips can
also be left through the department's Web site at www.suttersheriff.org.

Re: Left leg discovered (Male) - Feather River CA
Northern California authorities have quite a mystery on their hands after finding a human head and three limbs -- but no body -- near a river.
The head and two arms were discovered last weekend along the Feather River, near the site where a severed leg was found several months ago, the Appeal-Democrat.com reported.
The arms belong to a male whose identity may be determined through fingerprints, Sutter County sheriff's Lt. Butah Uppal said. It wasn't clear if the head was that of a male or female.
Two fishermen reported finding the arms Saturday near Beer Can Beach on the Feather River, Uppal told the newspaper. The next day, authorities found the decomposing head up a hill.
The case is being investigated as a homicide, Uppal said.
It is not clear yet if the newly found body parts came from the same man whose leg was found in a plastic bag in November.
A pathologist determined the leg had been surgically removed while the person was alive, the newspaper reported. A DNA sample was taken and police were able to identify the man, but he was never located. Police have not publicly identified the man.
Uppal wouldn't say if the newly found arms had any identifying marks or were found in a plastic bag, the newspaper reported.
A half-dozen cadaver-sniffing dogs searched the area Sunday, but found no additional evidence.
Uppal said federal authorities are assisting with the investigation.
