CARLOS SANTILLANA - 2 Months (2009) - Brooklyn NY
The infant boy sealed in concrete by a Brooklyn couple charged with pimping out his enslaved hooker mom, was beaten to death, according to invesigators. The baby, Carlos Santillana, was only 2 months old when he died, but his brief life was miserable.
A spokeswoman for the city medical examiner said little Carlos suffered
blunt impact injuries to his head, torso and extremities."The cause of death is battered child syndrome,"
said spokeswoman Ellen Borakove. Federal agents and cops made the horrifying discovery of Carlos' body sealed inside a Rubbermaid storage bin on Nov. 25 after raiding a Sunset Park apartment where a sex-trafficking ring was allegedly based. The feds charged alleged ringleaders Domingo Salazar, 33, and Norma Mendez, 32, with forcing the baby's mother, who is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, into prostitution two weeks after the baby was born to pay off her smuggling debt. The couple may face upgraded charges.

Brooklyn sex-traffic duo charged in entombed baby's death

A Brooklyn couple that ran an international sex trafficking ring were charged Wednesday with killing a prostitute's baby and entombing his tiny corpse in concrete.
The body of 3-month-old Carlos Santillana was hidden in a rubber storage bin for nearly a year, prosecutors said.
The ghastly crime was cooked up by Domingo Salazar and his wife, Norma Mendez, who ran hookers out of their Sunset Park apartment, prosecutors said.
Salazar was the father of Carlos, who showed signs of being repeatedly beaten since birth, said prosecutor Jacqueline Kagan at a Brooklyn Supreme Court hearing.
Two months after Carlos was born, Salazar and Mendez forced his mother into the sex trade so she could pay off a $2,500 fee for smuggling her from Mexico, prosecutors said.
After federal agents busted the sex trafficking ring in November 2009, they found Carlos "encased in concrete - left for 11 months when it was discovered," said Kagan.
Salazar and Mendez "left their own children in an apartment with a decomposing body," she said.
Both Salazar and Mendez are illegal immigrants.
They previously pleaded guilty to federal sex trafficking charges and are awaiting sentencing.

Couple sentenced for forcing teenager into prostitution
5/12/2011
A couple accused of forcing a teenage mother into prostitution and beating her infant son to death were sentenced Thursday in Brooklyn federal court to a total of more than 35 years in prison.
Domingo Salazar received 30 years, while his wife, Norma Mendez, received 68 months. The sentences stemmed from their guilty pleas last year to federal charges of sex trafficking of a minor.
Salazar and Mendez still face murder charges in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn stemming from the infant's death.
According to court documents, Salazar met the victim, a 17-year-old girl, in Mexico, and began a relationship that led to her pregnancy. Prosecutors claim he convinced her to move to the United States, where he and Mendez forced her to become a prostitute almost immediately upon her arrival, systematically abusing her for more than two years.
When the young woman gave birth, the couple abused the infant and eventually beat him to death, according to court filings. The couple refused to call for medical help and instead buried the body in concrete, according to the indictment.

Re: CARLOS SANTILLANA - 2 Months (2009) - Brooklyn NY
I hope these murderers are put to death. I can't believe international prostitution rings still go on like this is the US. It's horrible what they do to young girls and then abuse and murder the poor baby. She could have dropped the baby off at any hospital when it was born with no questions asked. Instead the POS killed his own flesh and blood.

CARLOS "Doe" - 3 Months (2009)/Accused: Domingo Salazar and Norma Mendez - Brooklyn/ NYC NY
A YOUNG, WEEPING mother knelt beside the casket carrying the body of her 3-month-old son on Thursday.
Dressed in black and holding a white carnation, the 18-year-old woman kissed the coffin — no bigger than a shoe box — just before the boy was laid to rest at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, L.I.
It was the teen’s first reunion with the child since he was killed more than two years ago by a Brooklyn couple who smuggled the mother in from Mexico and forced her to work as a prostitute.
“She finally has some closure,” said Tim Jaccard, whose organization — the AMT Children of Hope Foundation — helped provide the funeral services.
“This was a loving mother who cared for her baby.”
The teen’s infant, Carlos, was found entombed in slab of concrete inside a Sunset Park apartment when investigators busted a sex trafficking ring on Nov. 25, 2009.
Domingo Salazar, 35, and his wife, Norma Mendez, 34, had beaten little Carlos so badly that he fell limp in his mother’s arms in January 2009, court papers show.
Salazar, who fathered the baby, and Mendez then forced the teen mother — whose name is being withheld by the Daily News — to put her child in a plastic container and fill it with concrete, the papers show.
For 11 months, the mother had to sleep near her son’s remains in the living room of the 40th St. apartment.
The heartless couple, who are now serving sentences for sex trafficking, were convicted of manslaughter this month for the death of the infant. An autopsy showed he died of battered-child syndrome.
Santos was sentenced to four to 12 years behind bars. Mendez will likely get the same prison time at her sentencing next week. They will be deported after their time is served, authorities said.
Jaccard has buried 94 murdered or abandoned babies since 1998 on a plot of land in the cemetery dubbed The Island of Hope. He began working with prosecutors as soon as he heard of little Carlos’ death.
“I cry every time,” said Jaccard, 63, a retired medic with the Nassau County Police Department. “But this one was different. To have a child ripped from her arms and murdered . . . you just can’t fathom that. It’s just evil.”
The young mother wanted the opportunity to bury her child properly, but she couldn’t afford it, Jaccard said. She patiently waited for the convictions of her son’s killers, when the child’s remains were released from a city morgue that had stored them for more than two years.
Jaccard said he just wished he could’ve helped before the poor infant died.
His organization has helped save 2,855 newborns across the country this year — 13 in New York.
He initiated safe haven laws across the country that usually allow mothers to drop off newborns with no questions asked at firehouses, hospitals or police precinct stationhouses.
His group also has a 24-hour hotline available for at-risk mothers to call so they can give birth anonymously and hand the newborn over to child protective services.
For baby Carlos’ mother, Jaccard expects to find her a job once she gets a green card and offer her a new beginning.
“Hope,” he said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
