Nicholas Bacon's Facebook page shows a message posted the same day his wife, Lacy Bacon, filed for divorce: "How
can anyone live without? How can anyone live without someone to share
there his and her sinks? How can anyone live with only half a closet
filled or half a dresser filled. When they see a pack of 2 toothbrushes
how does that make them feel? Just some things to ponder. Goodnight."It was his final entry.Days
later, the 20-year-old shot his 8-month-old son, Bekm, and then turned
the gun on himself at his west Meridian home Monday night.Police
investigators know he and his 19-year-old wife, Lacy Bacon, had
recently separated and that she filed for divorce Feb. 1, citing
undisclosed irreconcilable differences. They also know that Nicholas
Bacon left Lacy Bacon a voice mail Monday night threatening to kill
their son and then himself, which caused her to call police.Officers arrived moments later, but they were too late.Police
had never encountered the couple before Monday, and had never been
called to their home at 547 S. Pelican Way for any reason, said
Meridian Deputy Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea.Investigators
are not even sure if Nicholas Bacon actually knew his wife had filed
for divorce - there is evidence he was never served with the court
papers. "We are interviewing family members and still trying to
figure this out," Basterrechea said Tuesday. "(Lacy Bacon) is just
totally distraught over this."Neighbors say the Bacons, who had
been married since June 2008, only recently moved to Pelican Way and
usually kept to themselves. Kristin Long, who lives next door,
said she didn't hear any gunshots Monday night and didn't know what
happened until police arrived. Long said she never heard the couple
argue. "They were just really quiet people - I didn't even know they had a child," Long said. "This is just heartbreaking."Family members did not return phone calls Tuesday. Murder/suicide
cases in the Treasure Valley occur sporadically - there have been at
least nine in Ada County since 2000, including a recent case of an
elderly Meridian man killing his wife and then himself in late January.
These cases have involved couples of all ages - and they have been
married, dating and even same-sex - but every one of them included some
aspect of domestic violence.Cases in which parents kill their
children and then themselves are very rare, said Erwin Sonnenberg, who
has been Ada County coroner since 1985 and can remember just one.In
1992, Alan Grandidier, 36, smothered his 2-year-old twin sons with a
pillow before shooting himself in the head with a pistol. Grandidier
and his wife were involved in a pending divorce and child custody
dispute.Meridian police were sent to the Bacons' home near the
Franklin/Linder roads neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Monday after Lucy
Bacon called to report Nicholas was making "suicidal and homicidal"
threats.Police say Nicholas Bacon had picked up Bekm from Lacy
Bacon earlier in the day as part of a previous arrangement and that he
was supposed to bring the infant back to her later Monday. The couple had spoken on the phone several times Monday before Nicholas left the voice mail, police said. When
Lacy Bacon called the police, she said her husband didn't have a gun.
But when officers arrived at the home moments later - to find the
father and son both already dead - they found a .40 caliber handgun in
the living room.Basterrechea said police later determined Bacon took the handgun from a relative, who did not know it was missing. When
Lacy Bacon filed for divorce, she also filed a proposed parenting plan
under which Bekm would not be allowed to be with his father overnight
until the boy was 2 years old. The plan allowed the father to be with the boy for three work days between 4 and 8 p.m., and every other Saturday. After
being served with the papers, Nicholas Bacon would have had 20 days to
respond to Lacy Bacon's filing. Both were ordered by the court to
attend a "Focus on the Children" and divorce classes on Feb. 25 to
learn techniques on how help to children deal with divorcing parents.

Anyone who would like to help the family of Bekm Bacon pay for funeral expenses can make a donation at any US Bank branch in the Treasure Valley.
A family member of the 8-month-old Bekm Bacon -- who was killed by his father Nicholas Bacon Monday night in a murder/suicide at their Meridian home -- opened the fund Wednesday. Anyone who wants to donate should go to any US Bank branch in the Treasure Valley and contribute to the "Bekm Bacon Memorial Fund."
Information about funeral arrangements for Bekm Bacon have not been released publicly. Donations to the fund will help determine what kind of service will be held for the infant, bank officials said.
Meridian police were sent to the Bacons' home near the Franklin/Linder roads neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Monday after Lacy Bacon, Nicholas Bacon's estranged wife, called to report Nicholas left her a voice mail threatening to shoot their baby and then kill himself.
Police say Nicholas Bacon had picked up Bekm from Lacy Bacon earlier in the day as part of a previous arrangement and that he was supposed to bring the infant back to her later Monday.
The couple had spoken on the phone several times Monday before Nicholas left the voice mail, police said.
When Lacy Bacon called the police, she said her husband didn't have a gun. But when officers arrived at the home moments later -- to find the father and son both already dead -- they found a .40 caliber handgun in the living room.
Police officials later determined Bacon took the handgun from a relative, who did not know it was missing.
